coming into the warehouse over a

tents o f the building estimated the
amount of sugar at 150 earloada, or
about 10,000,000 pounds.
Around immense piles o f sacks con
taining the sugar the Federal agent
said he found a screen o f other arti
cles, while some of the containers
marked "to p crust flour" sctually had
flour sprinkled over the outside.
New York— Refinery, wholesale and
retail prices o f sugar for Greater
N ew York were standardized in an
agreement entered into Tuesday by re
presentatives o f the three branches o f
the industry at a conference called by
Henry Msrkowitx,
commissioner of
public markets. The prices fo llo w ;

lated; wholesale, $8.60 per hundred
|s>unds for bulk granulated in the ori
ginal packages to the retail trade; re
tail 10 to 11 cents a pound for granu
lated sugar, the price to the consumer
not to exceed 11 rents.
The conference issued a statement
saying that the co-operation o f the
consumer was necessary in working out
the plan ami, that the sugar shortage is
temporary.
Fruit Shippers blamed.

ma valley was placed on the shoulders
o f fru it shipi>eni in a statement by
Northern Pacific officials. They as
serted that the average o f 3000 car
loads out o f this valley this season has
been 640 boxes, in spite of appeals
from government and railroad officials
to load the cars heavier. The shippers
declared many cars had gone out loaded
with 728 boxes, but that the bulk o f
the apples would be ruined by over
loading and lack o f ventilation.
