Mrs. Sarah Lund, of Giicugo. whose husband and father were drowned in the sinking of the Lusitania, has sued the Cunr.td Steamship Company, owners of the liner, for $40,000 damages for "permanent injuries” sustained by her in that catastro phe. Her attorney, Frank S. Monnet, alleges in the hill of complaint, filed in the Federal Court, that Mrs. Lurid was deceived into tak ing passage on the ship by state ments made on behalf of the com pany that it was fully provided with safety device«, including life boats and rafts. It is alleged that the ship was not legally allowed to carry ex plosives, but that by a "conspir acy" between Dudley Field Ma lone, Collector of the Port of New York, and Captain W. T, Turner, master of the Lusitania, there was a large cargo of explosives in the ship’s hold. The tragedy caused "severe and permanent” shock to the plaintiff, according to the bill, and her cloth ing was torn from her. Mrs. Lund’s mother was lost in the sinking of the Empress of Ire land. Later a rumor, which prov ed baseless, had it that the mother survived and, with her mind a blank, was known as "Mrs. Fitz gerald" at an English asylum. It was to investigate this story that Mrs. Lund, her husband and her father sailed on the Lusitania. Negro Woman Ooing to Wed or Kill Men Who He* Wife Fort Worth, Texas. Oct.. 21.— As the palmists would say, a dark man has come into the life of Lona Smedlev. They might continue in their cryptic way that Lona’s age is ^5. her weight 309 pounds and her color admirably suited to that of the man who has come into her life. The horoscope does not pic ture precisely what will happen when Lona arrives in Oklahoma City. I>et Lona’s friends tell the rest of it. The dark man’s name is Rufus. Lona is ex|>erienced in matrimony and she picked Rufus as a desir able husband. The wedding was arranged, the bride had put the final touches on her trousseau and the wedding presents were all re ceived and receipted for in ad vance. Then Lona was informed that /tufus already has qualified for citizenship in Salt Lake City—if polygamy still is a feature of life there—although he still calls Okla homa City his place of residence. AVout that time Rufus took leave of his finance and wrote her from Oklahoma City to come up there for the wedding. Lona already has decided to obey part of that command. She is going to Oklahoma City, for sure, but whether or not for "the wedding" she is undecided.
