The shooting o f J. P. Morgan is
but a warning, a forerunner of
that which is to come i f the dis
satisfaction between the employer
and the employed is not satisfac-
torially adjusted. It is stated that
the man who wounded Mr. Morgan
was wanting to prevent the ship
ment o f munitions o f w ar to Eu
rope. This may be true, but it is
also true that there is a belief that
such men as Morgan, Carnegie
and Rockefeller control the Gov
ernment o f the United States and
use it to promote their interests as
against the interests and rights o f
th“ workers. They do not believe
that it is possible to accumulate
the vast wealth these men have
in an honest or legitimate w ay. In
putting the rich and powerful out
o f the w ay or destroying their
property they believe that a great
service has been done fo r the poor.
They willingly risk liberty and life
to accomplish it. In this, a greater
danger confronts the United States
than the much talked o f w ar with
either Germany or Japan. Let
these people (cranks, i f such you
may be pleased to call them ) once
realize their power and like the
German submarine that the whole
world tfice scoffed at, they become
a terror and a nightmare to the
rich. It w ill be impossible to
guard against them. The most
trusted employee may be the wild
est o f the bunch, and apply the
torch place the bomb or fire the
deadly shot from ambush.

a string line.
H e was using small minnows for
bait and had no luck. A fter fishing

He proceeded to string it, declaring he
was going to bare something to show
anyhow.
He dropped the long stringing line
over the side o f his boat, fished for
nearly an hour and caught a five Inch

H e started to pull up his line to
string the trout and felt a fierce tug,
and after a hard struggle he pulled In

another line and dropped the eel over
board again. In forty-one minutes he
pulled up seventeen more bass.

Cambridge, Mass.— President Lowell
o f Harvard university lu a speech said
that after the age o f twenty three a
man's keener senses begin to lessen, al
though something may be added
through the medium o f experience aft
er that age.
" I believe,” said Dr. Lowell, “ that the
mental und physical maxima are reach
ed at nearly the same |>erlod. A man
rcachea bis full physical growth when
he Is about eighteen or nineteen years
old, and by the time be la twenty-three
he Is beginning to lose his keener per
ceptions, so that this age may be called
the physical muxlmum. Tbe mental
maximum Is reached a great deal ear
lier than most people suppose.”
Speaking to college hoys, he contin
ued: "You have reached your physical
maximum and are close upon your
mental maximum. You will probably
gala something more from experience, j
but your actual capacity will Increase
