At, a called meeting of the city
council Thursday night, the vote at
the recent city election was canvassed
No discrepancies In the count by the
election officers was. found. The fol
lowing were declared elected and the
recorder directed to issue them cer
tificates: Mayor. J. A. Burleigh; councilraen,
C. T. Hockett, George Law and C. H.
Zurcher; recorder, Carl Roe; treas
urer, W. F. Savage; city attorney,
Thomas, M. Dill.
A delegation from he Ladles Im
provement association asked that the
city purchase the cemetery. After
some discussion tlie following commit
tee was named to act with the may
or about the matter: Coimcilmen
Ashley, Funk and Keltner.
The city attorney was directed to
draw up an ordinance fixing the bond
of the city recorder at $2000.

DeVALL CASE AGAIN
BEFORE SUPREME COURT
This office has Just completed a
brief for A. S. Cooley, attorney for
Thomas DeVall In the case of Bea
trice DeVall vs. Thomas DeVall, ap
pealed to the supreme court.
The case is a suit for alimony
based on a Judgment in a Wiscon
sin court of a number of years ago.
It has been before the court here
for several years 'and to the Ore
gon supreme court once. At the
last term of the circuit court, ver
dict was given by a Jury in favor
of the defendant, Thomas DeVall.
The court gave a decision granting
& new trial, and this decision has
been appealed. '

IMPROVEMENT LEAGUE ,
WANT CEMETERY PURCHA8ED
At an enthusiastic meeting of the
Ladles Improvement league Thurs
day afternoon in the public library,
the matter of the purchase of the
cemetery was discussed, and the. di
rectors were Instructed to see the
council. It was decided to offer, $100
toward the purchase of the ground.
The league also agreed to furnish
a man and team for two days to set

" In a beautiful home wedding Wed
eaday evening, May 3, at 6 o'clock,
Miss Mabel Wilson, daughter of Mr
and Mrs. W C. Wilson, and Mr. Ar
thur E. Carruthers of Strome, Ata.,
Canada, were married by Rev. B. F.
Meredith of the Methodist church, In
th home of the bride's sister, Mrs.
J. C. Conley. The impressive ring
ceremony was used.
. Miss Mildred Hamilton of Imnaha
was bridesmaid, and Mr. Parke Wil
son best man. The Lohengrin wed
ding march was played by Mrs. Paul
Wilson, as the bridal party entered
the parlor where the ceremony was
performed.
Miss Wilson was a lovely bride,
dressed in pure white, wore a bridal
veil, and carried an arm bouquet of
bride's roses. Miss Hamilton was
also dressed in white. The parlor
was beautifully decorated with ever
green and roses and carnations.
The wedding supper that followed
was a masterpiece of culinary are
and was enjoyed by the following
"grown-ups," besides the children:

relatives here, at 'Joseph, Imnaha and
Paradise for a fortnglht before leav
ing for their far north home where
Mr. Carruthers is extensively engaged
In wheat farming. '
COUNTING THE MAIL.
Postmaster' Weathers and clerks
are having to count every piece of
mail handled in the office this
month, but are putting on extra
hustle and so far the- mall has not
been delayed so anyone could not
ice it. It Is a departmental order
and obtains at all offices.

Mrs. G, R. Shipley, who had been
visiting her brother, J. R. Halley,
and family, left Friday for her home
in Portland.

Calendar of the Methodist church,
were entertained at the home of Mrs.
J. C. Conley, Friday night.
Miss Jessie Hyde and Miss Eva B.
Haas have declined their election as
teachers In the public school for
next year.. Misses Hyde and Haas
were Lostine visitors Saturday.
A. C. Weaver and family -will move
from the Rudd cottage recently
purchased by J. P. Sanders, to the

street.
Jonathan Haas of Alder Slope' is
the owner of a new motor car that
arrived Thursday. J. H. Haun of
Lostine is also the owner of a new
car.
Mrs. W. E. Dalsley of Lostine vis
ited here over Friday night, and was
accompanied home Saturday morn
ing by Mrs. D. F. Steele and chil
dren for a day's visit.

streets and the firm name is now

the Hambelton blacksmith shop has

the blacksmith shop, remodeled and
