I myself saw something of i It manifested when the town's repro-1 sentatlveB returned from winning the decision for the High School. Just at present the townspeople of Enterprise have another excellent op portunity to give further expression of this "town spirit," by boosting and supporting one of Its benevolent i Institutions. The Baptist Church of Enterprise, with the help of the Oregon Baptist I State Convention and the Home Mis-1 slon Society, has labored hard to erect a church building that is a credit to the town. It was our con viction, that any new church edifice should bo expressive of the new town development. In the face of serious financial strin gency and the scarlet fever epldem- IN LATE WINTER AND EARLY SPRING We seldom feel JUST R1QHT At such a time KASPARILU is the best and safest Blood Purifier, the most successful prescription for spring humors and such disorders of the blood as boils, pimples. pustules, blotches, sores and cutaueous eruptions. Kasparilla is admitted to be the best remedy for thnt lack of energy and the peculiar debility so prevalent during the close of winter and the opeuini; of spring. For derangements of the di gestive organs it is a, natural corrective, operating directly upon the liver and ali mentary canal, gently but persistently stimulating healthy activity. Its beneficial influence extends, however, to . every portion of the system, aiding in the processes of digestion and assimilation of food, promoting a wholesome, natural appetite, correcting sour stomach, bud breath, irregularities of the bowels, con stipation and the long list of troubles directly traceable to those unwholesome conditions. Kasparilla dispels drowsi ness, headache, backache and despond ency due to inactivity of the liver, kidneys and digestive tract. ' It is a Strengthening tonic of the highest value. THE BEST SPRINQ MEDICINE llOYT CaxMiCAX, CO. Portland, Oregon Ic In the town, the churchas suc ceeded better .than one might have hoped. The dedication! came. Just when the cry of hard times was the loude3t and hence it was ' not pos sible to get many cash pledges nor 'to get pledged every dollar of the In debtedness, as we bad reasonably expected to do. After the dedication the State Convention sent to the field Its pastor-at-large, a man of large experience In every way, but he had only begun to get hold of matters when the scarlet feVer clos-4 ed the churx'h services and other wise hindered the work. . Jf But in spite of all the hindering conditions, a $7500 church building has been erected and all indebted ness is provided for In gifts, cash, and pledges, with the exception of about $1300, and this without any mortgage loans as yet on the property. The project Is therefore ; wholly within the bounds of financial safety. This to my mind is In reality a great vic tory. Rev. H. 11, Foskett, our pastor-at-Jargo, only took the work up on March 5 and the scarlet fever has hindered. him most of the time. He has, however, been able to make some progress in spite of hampering town conditions. He has' been able to arrange by credit and transfer of nlerlena nto. for nhnnr JSifWl nf the Indebtedness and has raised $400 more lu pledges. He will continue in . charge of the work and On the resum ptlon of the public services he will be able to do more. As a man of large experience, he is doing his best tojuljiwt all matt era, to collect pledg es, secure new pledges, secure a loan , to cover the balance, etc. Both the, church and the State Con ventlon regret Jhat the peculiar town conditions have made necessary some delay in the payment of some out standing, bills, Residents of Enter. prise who know r.t first hand the con ditions ought to be the most sym pathetic and considerate. "Knocking" is certainly not In order and there are no grounds for any uneasiness when the real facts of the case are faced. Enterprise Is not long to be "hard up." Some progress has been mado, and more will be made. A lltUe time will see many changes for the bettor. Here then Is the chance for the Enterprise spirit.'' To sum up the case: The Baptist Church, under hard town conditions, . has brought a, creditable church build ing enterprise within perfectly safe ! financial bounds. The remaining j $1300 (out of $7500) can. be cared for ill s lime ume Dy iuruier pieugea vi loan on mortgage. The church is. do ing its best not, only In its own strength but with the cooperative help of the State ConvenUon, whose pastor at-large is the acUng pastor. What will the right town spirit -do in such a matter? The "Enterprise spirit" should cer tainly lead creditors to show consid eration and leniency and co-operate with Mr. Foskett in bis work for the church ' If In mirow' nnt ihi i-lcrhr i "own Spirit to hinder a benevolent Institution,' handicapped by tempor ary local conditions, yet doing its best and making progress. The "Enterprise spirit" should cer tainly lead the townspeople, regard less of church, creed, politics, color, wealth, poverty and business, to lend a helping hand in removing .the last, and relatively small, part of the in debtedness on a building that is a credit to the town. How eatfly the townspeople could do it, if they all got into the matter! Cash or pledg es may be, given to. our Mr. Foskett. I have seen something of the "En terprise spirit." I am now looking fo another manifestation. Like the man from Missouri, I am waiting to be shown. The "Enterprise spirit" must be Judged not by its claims but by its fruits. , FRED C. W.
