Monday night Dr. Moore was
called! to Joseph, on an emergency
rail, to minister to Miss Alice
Sprague who hadl been practically
unconscious for about 24 hours. The
semi-conscious condition was the re
sult of an injury. The doctor re
stored the patient to sensibility. ".
. W.' E. KeKner, brother of the lo
cal hardware man of that name, who
has been visiting here and looking
over ' the country around -Enterprise
with a view to locating, left Monday
for points in, southern Oregon. He
goes there to visit several localities
and to look at the land. It ia. Mr.
Keltner'a desire to secure lands at
the lowest figure (or extensive ranch,
lag. How-ver, he may return, to
Wallowa county, evea though the
rapid settlement here has increased
the general" price of land immensely
to the past few years.

noon. Frank Melotte, well and favorably

turned from an extended trip into

Attorney J.. A. Burleigh ' arrived
from Pendleton, where he attended
the preset session of the supreme
court, Thursday. He came In time
to find himself elected mayor of En
terprise. Gas Price, Who has been at, Hot
Lake under treatment arrived home
Thursday. Mr. Price seemed1 much
improved, and It is hoped that he
may be permanently helped by the
care he received.

Road Supervisor O. H. Lathrop,
living In the Lake district some
15 miles from Enterprise, has been
attending county-court. Mr. Lathrop
house, and thus expressed the gen
speaks highly of the new county
court house, and thus expresses the
general delight felt all over the

E. B. Payne of Great Falls, .Mont.,
Is at present looking about Wallowa
county for a ranch location. Mr.
Payne states that he wishes both cli
mate and soil suitable to diversi
fied farming.. In Wallowa county al
most any. kind of good soil and any
sort of climate cam be hod, depend
ing uponi the altitude.
W, E. Hammack,' a rancher living
some seven, miles from Enterprise,
paid this office a visit last Datuday.
Mr. Hammack remembers the time,
only a few years a-jo, when he couldi
have purchased for some $3,000 a
farm that has .recently sold for some-
thing Ilk ?.e,000.- This 13 evidence
of the growth of Wallowa county
realty values.
Attorney J. S. Hodgln, at one
time located- in Enterprise, now of
La Grande, has been renewing old
acquaintances' here ton several days.
Mr. Hodgln' went to Joe3ph Thurs
day where he had a clientage to look
after, returning to Enterprise on his
way home to La Grande. His many

Enterprise generally, were happy to

TUESDAY EVENING
Graduating exercises will be held

high school, to which the public Is

HEARS OF DEATH OF
8ISTER IN
KANSAS
Mrs. W. P. Samms has just re
cently received word or the death
of her sister, Mrs. Nellie Lundy, at
Weber, Kan. The death of the rel
ative occurred May 1. Mrs. Lundy
was the youngest sister of Mrs.
Samms, and the latter has .the kind
sympathy of her wide host of friends
in and about Enterprise.
Making ' Inside Improvements.
The R. S. & Z. Co. are making ex
tensive Improvements in the Interior
of their store room. Shelving and
hanging spaces, enclosed in glass
caess, are being, built in, for the
purpose of placing hats, clothing,
caps, and furnishings away from
the dust.

Wallowa returned io- that city from
Enterprise Thursday.
E. P. Sarret left Thursday morn
ing for Promise where he will spend
several months vlsltlne with rela
tives. .
Alene Harvey, little daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Harvey of this
city, sustained a fracture of one
of the bones In the left forearm,
Just above the wrist, Friday. Mr.
Harvey had been, to La Grande on
business, not returning until Satur
day. The little tot was playing with
some playmates, and In some man
ner the arm was twisted, accident
ally producing the fracture. No
serious resultsi are anticipated, the
child being so young and the bones
of the arm and are bo pliable and. so
readily tending to knit and heal.
Census Taker F. A. Clarke has
completed ; the census of Enter
prise, and 1s now skirmishing about
the outskirts, picking up any stray
names that he might have missed! or
that were unavoidably not taken. He
states that it Is surprising to get
out of town a short distance and
3ee the new homestead "shacks"
that spring up, almost, while one
sleeps. If there la any "person -in
Enterprise that has been missed,
he or she should inform Mr. Clarke
