SALEM Frank Lovell, who has
been chief clerk In the Secretary of
State's office at Salem for upwards
of 20 years has tendered his resigna
tion to take effect May 15. Mr.
Lovell resigns because of falling
health.
HOOD RIVER Excitement was
caused here by the discovery of gold
bearing quartz in a ledge of cement
gravel that -is' being blasted out for
the widening of the East Side road
The quartz Is said by mining men to
show traces of gold that would pay
well to work If the deposit is large
enough. .
HOOD RIVER A heavy rain with
warm sunshine Is said by berry'
growers to be bringing on with a rush
the largest berry crop known at Hood
River In many years. It Is now ex
pected that 70,000 crates is not too
many berries to expect here this year,
KLAMATH FALLS The vote on
the question of moving the courthouse
to Hot Springs addition resulted in a
victory for the new site. Eleven hutt
dred and three votes were cast In the
county, 598 for moving and 505 for
keeping It where It is, giving the win,
ners a majority of 93.
