Why We Do It
Our purpose in holding this contest is to acquaint the people of this section with the value of the
Pianos we handle. We have convinced the manufacturers of these pianos that this form of advertising is
far more effective than spending large amounts in magazine advertising.
We believe the best advertisement for a good Piano is a satisfied customer, and we believe further,
that the advertising allowance should go to the person who buys a piano, not to expensive magazines.
We want everyone to know that ours are the only stores in the West that sell New York's Great Art
Product-the Weber; the famous Chickering the oldest and most expensive of American Pianos; the beautiful
toned Hobart M. Cable; the now celebrated Lester of Philadelphia; the world renowned Kimball, given the
Highest Grand Award at the Chicago Exposition, and again at Seattle Exposition last year; the Celebrated
Hallet & Davis, and our own Eilers Orchestral piano, which is so rapidly becoming a favorite among musi
cians, as well as the Claredon, Smith & Barnes, and other equally well known makes. We have arranged
with America's foremost manufacturers to join in this great, far-reaching advertising campaign. Send m
your answer at once it costs you nothing to try. :

OREGON
and the
Great Northwest
The management of the Oregon Rail

pleasure in announcing that the low

People of Oregon
The railroads have done their part:
now it's up to yeu. The colonist rate
is the greatest of all home-builders.
Do all you can to let Eastern people
know about it, and encourage them to
come here, where land is cheap and
home-building easy and attractive.
Fares Can Be Prepaid
At home if desired. Any agent of '
the road is authorized to receive the
required deposit and telegraph ticket
to any point in the East
Remember the Rates
From Chicago, $33; from St Louis,
$32; from Omaha and Kansas City,

When California Wat Unknown.
In an old geography printed In 1815
appears the following: "California Is
a wild and almost unknown i land.
Throughout the year It Is covered with
dense fogs, as damp as unheal thful.
In the Interior are volcanoes and vast
plains of shifting snows, which some
times shoot columns to great heights.
This would seem nearly Incredible
were It not for the well authenticated
accounts of travelers."
