The Coughing Plant.
Tbe coughing plant grows In the
tropics. Its fruit resembles the com
mon bean. It is easily aroused to an
ger, and. what Is yet more strange. It
has a horror of all kinds of dust. As
soon as a few grains fall on tbe leaves
the stomata or air cells, which are tbe
breathing organs, fill with gas, puff
' out and throw off tbe dust with a
slight explosion sounding somewhat
like tbe cough of a child with a cold
In its bead.

A Curious Dish.
The favorite dish at Egyptian harem
feasts Is a curious one. It appears to
be a lamb roasted whole, and It Is, bnt
there Is much more to It than appears
on the outside, for inside the lamb Is a
turkey, and iuslde the turkey Is a
chicken; the chit-ken Is stuffed with a
pigeon, the pigeon with a quail, and a
becaflco, said to be the smallest bird
known, except the hamming bird, Is
at the heart of this carious roast.

Muskrat as a Delicacy.
The majority of persons are disgust
ed by the mere thought of eating musk
rat, but undoubtedly this Is due to
the prejudice against the name of rat.
However, they are greatly mistaken in
disliking this rodent, for it is one of the
cleanest of living animals and is de
licious when properly cooked. The
muskrat's borne Is built of marsh grass
heaped Into a mound and situated
above the level of high water. This
bouse Is dry and warm, and the In
terior is always spotlessly clean.
Feeding entirely upon tender roots
and herbs, this peculiar little anl.ua!
Invariably scrubs thoroughly la the
water every bit of food before it is
eaten. He Is cleaner than many a hu
man being. Harper's Weekly.
