Prohibition Movement In Oregon
Papar read by Mrs. W. C. Wilson at the meeting
of the Enterprise W. C. T. V., July 9.
Of all the vital Questions that come
1 V. n
before the American people to u
leriously considered, Prohibition
loads the list.
Any measure which helps to build
ip home, community, and nation,
(light to be, and is encouraged. That
A'hich destroys and ruins, should be
rushed and rendered helpless.
The saloon Is the. nation's greatest
netnv. for into its doors go honor,
health and noble aspirations., out of

nisery and woe. We are on the
ride of Ood and Right, when we seek

The modern temperance movement
nay be said to date from the publl
atlon at Philadelphia In 1785 of Dr.

fect of Ardent Spirits on the Human

NEED OF CENTRAL PARK.
Park site adjacent to the business
center of Enterprise are limited to
one or two, and they will be gone
before another summer at the pres
ent rate of the town's growth.
Events of the last two months show
the extreme need of an open space
for public purposes near the business
district. A place for celebrations is
essential to the financial success of
such gatherings, if not absolutely
necessary to holding them at all.
A central park' would also give a
place for all other out-door gather
ings, besides serving' as a place of
rest and recreation.
Of the qne or two sites remaining,
it Is stated o"e U least can now
;be secured oa fairly reasonable terms.
This is the chance for someone to
tart a move that would be of Inesti
inable benefit not only to the pres
ent eeneration but for all time to
come.
PREFERS PENDLETON.
Congressman Ellis is doing a good
and thorough job o! misrepresents?
this district He has trained during
'his whole season with Joe Cannor
and all the gang that Is raising the
taxes on everything consumed by
our people and lowering It only on
those things produced in the Pacific
Northwest. His every vote is against
the neonlp and tor the trusts and
monopolies.
Evidently, Mr. Wade Ellis Is tired
of Washington life, and delres to
remain permanently In that dear old
and that verdict was affirmed by the
voters of the county last year. Aftei
a practical test of three years the
DeoDle are well satisfied with Pro
hlbitlon and the day ot the oper
saloon has passe here forever. The
temperance forces of the county are
well united There i a strong publli
sentiment for law enforcement and
he law is very well observed."
Let these two words, "Oregon
".ledeemeJ," be thei slogan for the
coming campaign. Let "Oregon
tedeemed'' be the Idea uppermost
n every temperance person's mind
t should be the pnayter of evf v.
hristian man and woman, "Oregon
'.edeemed" should be the subject of
many a sermon from the pulpits of
our state and. inspire many a conver
sation at Bocial gatherings ot the
home lovero of our state, and should
be held before the Sunday school
classes by their teachers.
This little item Is from the "Home

the disasters which follow in the wake

In your issue of the third week

that "In my usual way he, (mean

This statement that I got into troub
