Old-Fachioned Game of 8oak.
The Elgin eam or a part of It, re
enforced by Cove's two best batters,
3topper offhere Monday and attempt
ed to play a game with the locals,
it could hardly be called a ball game,
but was more like the boyhood game
of 40 years ago called town ball. The
visitor's pitcher was so easy that
both team re.axel and an afternoon
of slugging and errors enjoyed both
by players and spectators. It would
be cruelty to give the detailed score.
Suffice to say Elgin by persistent ef
fort accumulated 16 errors, 14 stolen
bases, 8 hits off Conaway and scored
10 runs. Enterprise was not far be
hind In bad playing, making 15 errors
getting but seven stolen bases but
bumping the high-priced league pitch
er for 18 hits Including four two bag
gers, and massing up the big total
or 18 runs.
Base Ball Notes.
Enterprise has now won 6 out of 7
games from teams In the Eastern
Oregon league. 2 each from Union,
Cove and Elgin.
The locals go out to Union county
and play 2 garnei at Union and 2 at
Cove.
The ball Friday night was a grand
success. The Cove boys certainly
appreciated their treatment in here
and went away praising the town and
pople. . -

CLIPPED THE TAIL OFF.
The Wallowa Sun says It does not
wish to argue the matter of the Rose
Festival Queen contest, and then
goes on to bolster up Its previous
mis-statements by making another In
the form of a part quotation from
this paper of June 6.
We dont wish to argue the mat
ter either, but when this paper Is
misrepresented, the truth is going to
be told. The quotation from this pa
per given in the Sun was; "Every
vote polled was bought by Enterprise
people, none of the other towns be
ing willing to put up a cent to adver
tise the county."
That quotation Is Incorrect. '.The
period after county was put 'there by
the Sun. It did not appear In this
paper, and the qualifying words "In
this manner," were left off by the
Sun purposely to bolster up its argu
ment. Add those words, and the Sun
has already admitted the sentence Is
true as far as its town is concerned.
