Recently installed in the Ne.vs Record office is the latest improved
linecasthig machine, being perfected by the Mergenthaler company and
put on the market only this spring. As the tianio ludica'.cs it casts a
t'uH line of type or slug. The o,ie ator sit ting at a keyboard, re.semb i.tg
the keyboard of a typewt iter, asseniies the nun t ires or letter mollis un
til a line is assembled, which is the u carried on wins to opposite the pit
filled with molten metal and there the slug is cast. The slug is trim
med and slides to a waiting gVl.ey while the matrices are carried on
around on the wires, distributing a ltomalicully and are re idy to lie
used again. The machine is a gro:t boon to the publisher and is at
economizer in both time and money. The .t.woletier part is that both

The power for the machine is furnished by an Olds gasoline etgina,
another recent addition to the News Record plant. This engine also
runs the large cylinder press th it was. added to the plant a few weeks
ao and lite Goi'don jobber. Ollie.- recent purchases are a Boston wire
st'ipler and a Ro.ssback perfovut r. These in addition to the original
plant, much new printing materia!, including latest styles in job type,
make the News Record office sevond to none in Eastern Oregon. Any
thing in the printing line can ba tii'-nad out. quickly, neatly and (haaply.
The people of the county are invita l to inspect the plant at any time.
