league at the Methodist church Sunday
night the leader. J. A. Burleigh, ex-

F. J. Barackman of Thief River Falls
Minn, writes: "J. Lorenxo Zwickey
appeared before the people f this city
on November 19th, giving the second
number of our course. We were de
lighted with his work. Nearly a month
has now passed and our people are still
talking of the splendid treat he afforded
us. His entertainment are revela
tions, as well as a course in art" Prof.
Zwickey will be at tlie Enterprise opera
house, Thursday night, February 6.
R. I. Long, the well known engine',
has organized a real estate company
to be known as the K. 1. taint Real Es
tate company, that will deal generally
in real state, but give special attention
to Wallowa county farm lands and the
bringing in of Eastern people to invest
here. The other members of the new
firm are Eastern people, relative of Mr.

Saturday seemed to be. ratlier a day of

the forenoon William Fleener, while
hauling grain to Elgin, was rendered
unconscious by getting thrown from
the wagon. In this accident ttie mus

Elgin Sunday. They will remain there
until he is able to be brought home.
In the afternoon (). .1. Clark's team ran
off, he was thrown down among tbe
running guars of the wagon and as he
fell to the ground several severe cashes
were inflicted on the head and face.
The same' evening his stepdaughter,
Vella Zen as, fell on tl e ice while hkat
ing and was rendered unconscious for
some time. All three patients are get
ting alou; nicely and Vella is able to
be in school again.

Mrs. Goodman returned Sunday from

Winter has been very open in this
part of the country, there not binz

Dr. Thompson was called to the
home of James Steen last Monday, Mr.
Steen was very ill with mumps but is
now better.
G. VV. Neil of The Buttes was up
from his stock ranch on upper Imnaha
to visit bis sou aud daughter. He re
ports good winter for stock in that part.
Mr. Neil has not fed his cuttle any as
yet.
James Daley, who is in the employ of
Harry Vaughn, is suffering with
mumps this week.
8urber Bros, were visiting their
brother, Sheilie Surber, last week.
Several of the young people of this
part attended the debate at the opera
noute in enterprise Saturday nignt and
reported it good.
Bertel Sergeant, who has been absent'
from home fur several months, recently
visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. F.
Sargeant.

Lon Dale and Lester Neil are trying
their luck at breaking horses this week.

day and have been visiting friends on
the river.
Henry Weaver has been filling the
post of stage driver to Imnaha of late.
Jasper M. Simmons passed another
milestone (whv not say yeai stone) of
his life on the 22nd inst. His wife and
daughter gave him a pleasant surprise
by inviting in a few frionas to help him
cat a fine dinner of fried chioken with
alt the usual accompaniments; also
other extras suoh as a delicious birth

strawberiies. A very pleasant after
noon was spent in games, feasting,

mother of our brother knights, Leroy
and Gordon Martin ; may we as

Dr. Fleenor came in early Saturday
mori ing to attend the wife of Luther
Campbell. On his return Monday he
was called in to see Mis. J. A. Denny

suffering. He reported Mrs. Camp
bell resting easy.
Jack Johnson has been suffering with
a severe attack of the grip. Other men

the grip for a change.

down on Friday's stage for a visit with

People in this neighborhood are
patiently waiting for snow on which to
haul their year's supply of wood.
School was in session last Saturday in

Lower Valley, Jan. 21. We have

Friday, Jan. 17, after an illness of six
weeks. ' Brother Martin conducted th
funeral services. She leaves her mother,
father and two brothers and a hcit oi
friends to mourn her death.

Several of the school children have
had severe colds and been uuable to
attend school for a short time, but we
have been very lucky not to get the
mumps in our school.
A baby was born to Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. Sanner, last week.
B. F. Miller, who is teaching near
Enterprise, made a trip to Promise last
week.

A Wallowa county man was told by
the O. R. & N. construction engineer
last week that he was directed to report
when work on bridges of the Joseph
extension could be resumed, and that
he had reported that work on abate
ments could begin March 1.
