The next number on the Ente prise
Lyceum course is a lecture by the Hon.
Joseph G. Camp of Atlanta, Ga., next
Tuesday evening, Nov. 12. His subject
will probably be "Daughters of Eve," i
Mr. Camp is the orator of the South. J
His endorsements are from the leading ;
men of his state and from others who
have heard him speak. His majestic
eloquence, his profound thought, his
pleasing and entertaining manner have
won for him his distinction. He is a
natural orator, and is recognized as
equal or better than Gov. Bob Taylor,
John Temple Graves, Wendling, Gun
saulus, Dixon, Br. rdette, Conwell, Mo
Intvre, Brvati and others. Vliil' Mr.

Messrs. Thos. Roup, L.- L. Hambletou
and D. Hunsaker, are perfecting ar-,
rangements for an old man's dance to J
be given tn a week or ten days, ihe
proceeds obtained from the danoe will
be donated to Mr. L. F. Johnpon, who
recently lost the fingers of his right
hand at Dawson Bros, planing mill.

Miss Livingston , whoso playing of

cert company, is a recent Addition to
the troupe, she taking the placo of Mr.
Angers, who became ill Mr. Angers is
as tall as M r. Starr is broad, and his
length is accentuated by his exceeding
thinne-8 lie is a fine violinist, but his
successor is also an artiste and fills his
place to the satisfaction of tiie other
members of the company an d of the
audiences.
Miss Livingstone is a native of Chica
go and this is her first long trip away
from the big city. She is not used to
ail the ways of life and living in small
towns. At the first hotel the company
stopped where oil lamps were used,
Miss Livingstone had to call for assist
ance to put out iter lump. It was the
first oil lamp f lie had ever used and she
did not know how to light it or put it
out.
Embargo on Grain Shipments.
The O. R. & N. 'agent at Elgin has
orders to allow Tio more cars loadi.O
with grain at that station for shipment.
The warehousemen are up in arms over
the order as their warehouses are
jammed vi i' h incoming freight and they
have no places to store the big grain
crops. It is thought the order was
isHued as a matter of help to the Port
land banks which had been pressed to
the limit for ready cash to move the
crops.
Strawberries at Flora.
From the Flora Journal
The editor of Coos Bay Harbor boasts
of having just eaten October straw
berries and Asotin people are proud of
their 2nd crop of strawberries and now
why can't we do a little bragging.
There were ripe strawberries picked
from P. S. Johnson's berry patch last
week.
Winter Cabbage for Salt.
A. M. (Lon) V agner has an excep
tionally fine lot of winter cabbage
ra .ied on his place that he offers for
sale. The beads are large and sound as
a dollar.
ALDER SLOPE.
District No 23 has an addition of two
new scholars this week, John Weaver
and Byron Homan.
Mr. and Mrs Will Hays left Monday
for their ranch on the Imnaha where
they will spend the winter.
Mrs. Charles Stanley of Joseph is
visiting with her sister, Mrs Eckley
Davis.
Herman Runstadler, wno bas been
very low with rhouinatlerp.ls again able
to he up and around.
Owen Stubblefield and lady . friend
were visiting with Miss Nora Mc Cor
mack, Sunday evening.
THE PARK.
Fruita, Oct. 30-Miss Hays has teen
employed to teach our echool, to com
mence Nov. 4th.
Mr. Hays and daughter accompanied
by Miss Elsie Neal of Freezeout were
callers in the Park the first of the week.
J. W. Thompson, universally called
Uncle John, has started for Iowa to
visit relatives. He bas not been east of
i the Rocky mountain! since early in the
'seventies, when he came 'to Montana,
then t Washington, then to Oregon.
Ho has resided in Wallr.wa county for
28 years. All wish him a pleasant jour
ney. Wm. Britt is visiting relatives and
fiiends in the Park.
L. Lloyd, wife, and dauehter, have
gone to Pine Valley to visit friends and
a daughter, Mrs. Melhorn.
Wm. Musty and wife returned home
the 25th, after a short visit at Joseph.
The family of Nicholas Musty are
visiting at Prairie creek this week.
Thos. Rich and wife are going to the
valley, the 2nd ult. for the winter. ,

Elgin Stock Shipments.
Masterson & Wiley delivered 500 head
of beet cattle at Elgin last week for the
Union Meat company. The shipment
consistsd of 20 car loads.
M. E. Hotehkiss, the Enterprise
etockbnyer, shipped five car loads of
cattle and two carloads of hogs to the
Union Meat company, Thursday.
