Bears are reported to be making them
selves very obnoxious to the ranchers
up the river above Lostine by persisting
in the habit of dining on the latter' b

is reported to have lost 30 pigs.

Lostine needs a harness shop, a furni
ture store, a saw mill and a shoemaker.

Hashing R. R. Work.
A large plow and scraper gang is put
ting the finishing touches on the rail
road road bed between Lostine and
Wallowa. A day and night force is
ranidlv finishing the last piece of rock
work in the canyon.
The Circuit Rider.
Eev. H. Martin, of Flora, will preach
in Lostine next Sunday. The reverend
is a survival of the old time "circuit
rider," he having four appointments
which are from 26 to 45 miles apart,
sandwiched in between rugged moun
tain ranees and swift streams' which he
must cross in all kinds of weather But
