Demand Exceeds Supply.

kept their kilo running all summer but
are unable to supply the demand.
Fagan Ranch Sold.
William Fagan of the Leap neighbor
hood, Bold hia ranch of ICO acres Satur
day to William Knapp; consideration
4000. This is considered to be one of
the best wheat ranches in that locality.
' Bears Partial to Pigs .
Bears are reported to be making them
selves very obnoxious to the ranchers
up the river above Lostine by persisting
in the habit of dining on the latter' b
pigs, geese and chickens. One rancher
is reported to have lost 30 pigs.

Schools Make Fine Progress. '
The Lostine public school ha s reached

Prof. Smith and his excellent corps of
assistants everything points toward an
excellent school during the ensuing

Lincoln Magill this week sold his
entire crop of 500 tons of alfalfa hay to
F. D. McCully for $5 per ton.
v Business Openings.
Lostine needs a harness shop, a furni
ture store, a saw mill and a shoemaker.
Any and all of the above enterprises
could do well here.
Hashing R. R. Work.
A large plow and scraper gang is put
ting the finishing touches on the rail
road road bed between Lostine and
Wallowa. A day and night force is
ranidlv finishing the last piece of rock
work in the canyon.
The Circuit Rider.
Eev. H. Martin, of Flora, will preach
in Lostine next Sunday. The reverend
is a survival of the old time "circuit
rider," he having four appointments
which are from 26 to 45 miles apart,
sandwiched in between rugged moun
tain ranees and swift streams' which he
must cross in all kinds of weather But
unlike many of his Nmore fortunately

A team driven by F. D. McCully of
Joseph, ran away in the north end of
town Friday, throwing the occupants of
the hack out and badly demolishing the
vehicle. No one was injured, however.
