BIG COUNTY FAIR
DI8PLAY3 IN EXHIBIT HALL BY
BU8INES8 FIRMS BELATED
NOTES OF 8HOW.
The e:lbit hall certain! shored
honors with the Uv stock a the
feature of the fair. The central
part was taken up with fine dis
plays by tuslae houses, factories,
etc. '
The Enterprise Creamery had a
f j!o showing of 1U celebrated pure
creamery butter In var'xua stages cf
manufacture. There were also De
Laval separators of which Mr. Biclt
ford la the agent.. A striking feat
ure of this exhibit were 12 or 15
checks psJd to patrons . of the
creamery during July. The checks
were nicely framed and underneath
each was - signed statement of the
patron telling the number of cows
that produced the money.
The E. M. & M. company had a
fine exhibit of all the various pro
duct of their mill the many brands
of flour making an tmpcctng exhibit.
Near by was a case showing the
bread made from the flour.
The sugar factory had a neat ex
hibit of beets raised In this county
and glass Jars showing sugar In the
various silages of manufacture.
Fred Ashley had a beautiful ex
hibit of his furniture, carpets, house
furnishings, sewing machines and or
gans. Jackson & Weaver bad an attrac
tive exhibit at the north end of
phonographs and typewriters. G. I.
RatcBff had a splendid showing from
his big furniture store.
The fruits, vese.ables, grains and
grasses and other products of the
farm .were arranged by sections, and
everyone of the seven In whlohi the
county was divided, made a fine
showing. Lucky It was that no local
Judges were called upon to decide
the relative merits. Where all were
so good It was a hard job to place
the blue ribbon. Space will not
permit individual mention.
The show of fancy articles, bread,
cakes, presene?, paintings, . fine
needlework, was unquestionably the
largest and best ever grouped at one
t.'Hie in this county,
- The poultry lists- were well filled
and some fine specimens of the vari
ous breeds shown. '
The a M. & XI. Co. had a fine dis
play of wagons, hacks, bucslto,
farming implements, etc.
Not)eof the, Fair.
The free rest room put up byi the
efforts or the ladies of the Enterprise
Improvement league, was a large
tent, comfortably furnished, and was
a great boon, to tired women and
children.
Ed Hart wasn't satisfied with
bringing in the prize winning vege
tables in ' several varieties, but
also showed a nice little sow pig
that tipped the scales at 510 pounds.
Ed says It isn't hardly old enough
to take on fat yet.
Frultt's show of American Hamp
shire swine was a popular exhibit.
The white banded hogs were a nov
elty to many.
L. J. Jordan's herd of Jerseys got
theLr share of at'jeatlon.
Sam Wade made a big exhibit
of his Percherooa of all ages.
Guess he must think It was worth
while when he counts over hia bhie
ribbons.
Every Republican and Democratic
candidate promised to be present
and nary a one showed up. That
settles it. We all will vote for the
Socialists and Prohibition tot on No
vember 8.
The Enterprise band enlivened
each day with fine music, and
weren't Mingy with It either. The
La Grande band helped a lot on
Thursday, and everybody appreciates
the pay roll town for sending in its
beat.
After trying to "remember and
speak of aU the principal features
of the fair, and fearing we had for
gotten something we asked our little
girt what was the nicest thing at. th
fair and her answer was prompt:
"The merry -go-round." So let It go
at that.
