Reports from the Imnaha are to -he effect that cougars are so plen tiful and so audacious that they are itealing to within a ' few hundred yards of sheep camps and killing lambs. Thlsi ought to be good news to the hunters with good dogs and trusty rifles. Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Burnaugh, H. A. Galloway, Miss. S. V. Heaton, S. P. Pace, Mr. and Mrs. 8. L. Brooks, A. F. Linn, A. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Amey, who had been visiting relatives In this city and at Joseph for several weeks, de parted Friday for their home at Mon mouth, 111. Mr. Aroey'a sister, Miss Guasie Amey, who has spent the past year here, returned home with them. They wtll visit at Colorado Springs and Denver en roate. Reavls was formerly county Judge of Wallowa county, and is a large proprety hold er here. His Illness is occasioned by the feebleness of old age, and while his many friends hope for his recovery his condition, owfhg to his age, is rendered critical. McDonald of Wal lowa returned to their home Ln that city Monday morning. Mrs. McDon ald gave & report of the national Sunday school convention which she attended, and which was very enthusiastically received at the union services held at the Presby erian church here Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. J. I. McKnelly came In from Portland this week and' are registered at the Hotel Enterprise. Mr. McKnelly was here about three weeks ago In the Interests of the New York Lire Insurance company and was so much pleased with the country and climate that on his re 'urn he brought Mrs. McKnelly with nim. Mr. McKnelly is an IlMnolun and was for many years manager for '.he company ln Southern Illinois. He has written a number of promi nent Oregonlans during his brief residence In this state.
