Someone has remarked that the masters are ready to do anything ex cept to get off of the backs of the workers. It seems that thinkers are ready to do anything except to come to the point. You can hardly find a man these days who will not say that he be lieves in many things that the So cialist advocates. But so many stop short of the one essential thing that Is, the overthrow of exploita tion. Sociologists are coming more , and more to recognize the Huth of the Socialist philosophy but; philos ophy is not enough,. We must come to the point of stopping the'robbery. Words are good as means of convey ing Ideas, but words will not fill an empty belly. Uulesa we come to action, unless Socialism Is trans formed from the realm of philosophy Into an actuality. Into a Jiving, breathing condition, It Is nothing. Scientists are beginning to recog nize the tremendous evolutionary force which 1 bearing us to Social ism. But if we depend on forces alone and not on ourselves we shall be centuries in reaching what might be obtained in a few years. We must learn that men are 'masters- of things. We must recognize that we can have Socialism,; when ever we want it. We must under stand that the people will .want So cialism so soon as It is presented) to them with all Its native and actual attractions. Let us shoot at the mark. Let us put all the force which lies in thought, which lies in that unnam able thing called Life, into this movement, and we shall become NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION ISO LATED TRACT. PUBLIC LAND SALE. Exchange Bought and Sold on All Principal Cities. masters of the situation Instead of being mastered by it Private ownership of great indus tries has proven a failure hi, nearly every instance. How many thous ands of htem have -gone Into the ; hands of receivers appointed by the courts public officials T Some of them have gone there a dozeni times before they could stand alone. If the Judges could take a property out pf the "skilled" hands of the cap taine of industry, and set it on Us feet and hand it back to the wreck ers, how much better even they would have been, to have controlled It from the first to the last. Re ceiverships have been asked and given when the big capitalists de sired to squeeze out the holdings of the smaller ones. If the nation , had collectively owned and controll ed, this could not have been done, for there would not have been any Individual stockholders to be squeezed out. Private ownership of industries has proved a failure. Collective own ership never proved a failure any where, except for the corrupUng of private ownership in robbing ' It or bribing the public officials to misuse It as an excuse to get It into their hands and so rob the people. The only reason, that any one wants to own an industry is to rob hie fel lows, by making them pay more for the product .than the products are worth. Do you get that? Would you want to own an Industry iif you could not make a profit out of ft? And wouldn't that profit be taken from those who made Its products? Doing away with private ownership of industries will do away with rob bery and extortion. Do you wish to be extorted from?
