The Twilight Leasue of Enterprise

Although everybody has had lots
of legitimate fun over the formation
of the league, it has Its serious pur
pose. One object of its. manaseniont
is a financial one. The small gate
charge of 10 cent will go to main
tain the expenses of the first team
of Enterprise, thus eliminating the
usual subscription or donation for
new uniforms, paraphernalia and
the like. Uy thus replenishing the
treasury of the first team In th
Two County league, considerable
aid will be effected.
Another object of the Twilight
League is that of 'drawing out"
prospective players from among
whom the big team can be supplied
as fast as new players are needed.
It is a far-sighted policy and ons
that is practiced by the big league
throughout the country, the National
and American and similar leagues
drawing continuously from the min
or leagues of the United States
The Twilight League of Enterprise,
with its four teams. Us to the En
terprise first team what the minor
league teams of the nation are to
the, big leagues. By maintaining a
systematic course of "try-outs" fresh
timber for the first team here can
be an hand, all the time, and the
first' team can in time be built Into
almost an Invincible array of base
ball talent.
In the Twilight League a schedule
ol three games between each club in
the league has been effected, carry
ing the games on for nine weeks.
The first "official" game occurred
Monday night, between Alder View
Invincibles and the Alkali Peaches
The next game will be played Thurs
day evening between the Brooklyn
Trolleydodgers andi the Hillside Hay-
diggers. After this, the teams will
alternate Mondays and Thursdays
In the evening.
All games will be called at
o'clock prompt. The team that is
not ready at 6:03 will forfeit the
game to the teami on the field ready
to play.
AFTERNOON TEA IN
HONOR OF VISITORS
Mrs. R. L. Day last Friday after
noon gave an afternoon tea In honor
of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Berland from
Oshkosh, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Berland
are here and about Enterprise on
iheir honeymoon trip, having been
married June 8. The reception ,was
given in honor of that event. Those

luncheon and all present enjoyed
the afternoon splendidly.

Rev. D. F. Gillard on his return

LEADEN PELLET MAY
RESULT DISASTROUSLY
Some weeks ago Peter Simmons,
it work on the ranch of J. A.
French on PrairieCreek, while shoot
ing squirrels with a. companion, suf
fered a gunshot wound In the leg
from a 22 calibre rifle. The pellet
made a painful jWOund, but medical
attention was given immediately and
'he patient was getting along fine.
Of late, however, the wound seems
to be healing on the surface with
inflammation gathering In the depths
of the hurt, and Mr. French lasti Sat
urday sent a physician out to In
spect the injury. No serious results
are anticipated, but Mr .French
wished the patient to have every
attention poaclble aa a preventive
of a:iy complications.

Seriously Hurt
Attempted To Hold Frightened- Team

F. A. Clarke was badly injured,
Tuesday evening at the head1 of Wal
owa lake, when his team took fright
ind he attempted -to hold them by
he bits. After being taken to his
lorne here Dr. AuLt was called1 and
tressed the ,wounds of the injured
man.
Mr. Clarke had driven to 'the lake
ifter a camping outfit his family
ind friends had used there in a brief
luting. While thus engaged some
ne discharged a small calibre rifle
vhlch frightened the horses. Mr.
Clarke at the time was standing) on
he ground, and grabbed the fright
ened animals by the bits, seeking
o hold them. In the melee which
'ollowed Mr. Clarke was thrown and
he team passed over him.
He was. taken to the lower end of
he lake In a launch, and from there
o Joseph and home In a vehicle,
when Dr. Ault was summoned. The
tootor found many . bad bruises and
cuts about the head, some of which
required stitching, but so far as
tnown now no internal injuries
ere discovered. The doctor thinks
he patient probably has escaped
iny serious internal injuries.
Mr. Clarke is confined to his bed,
jut H is earnestly hoped that he
will be about shortly. His many
,ersonal acquaintances and friends
tope for his speedy recovery, and
re deeply sympathetic for him that
so serious an injury should befall

ers. The latter were purchased from
Fred Falconer and will be taken by
Mr. Craig over on Snake river for

spending the summer on tho range.
Mr. Craig began shearing Monday.
He states that, nothing preventing,
he will have his wool clip In the
warehouse this week.
BIG CROP OF FRUIT
REPORTED FROM COVE
Word from Karl J. Stackland at
Cove, states that the general fruit
crop in that district is exeedingly
good and heavy. Cherries and all
fruits including apples' and pears for
quality and quantity, according to
Mr. Stackland, never were better in
that district. In fact they are said
to toe better this year than in any
year in Cove's history.

Is Suffered
Mrs. Ed Anderson Sustains Broken
Limb in Runaway Accident
Saturday.
In a serious runaway accident here
last Saturday, Mrat Ed Anderson,
living at Chlco, suffered a terrible
fracture of .the bones of the -left limb,
between the knee and ankle. Sho. is
at prsent at the home of L. A. Jack
son. Story of Accident.
Mr. and Mrs. Anderson with their
3mall son, had Just left Enterprise
on their way home, the accident
occurring -within the city limits
near the Floyera laundry. On driv
ing up the hill, a small Irrigating
ditch was encountered across which
was a small culvert. The water had
floated the culvert partially, so that
when one of the horses stepped on
it water splashed- up, frightening the
uiimal which sprang forward break-,
ing a singletree. Mrs. Anderson, par
tially jumped and waa- partially
.hrown from the buggy, striking her
left foot and lower left limb in- sttch
i manner as to break one oil 'the
bones once and the outside bone in
two places.
Commissioner Sam L-lfcch hurried
to the scene with hia auto, and con
veyed Mrs. Anderson to Dr. Ander
son's office on- Main street, where
the injury wasi dressed. She was
then talc en to the home of Mr.
Jackson, as statel.
Mr. and Mrs. Anderson are ,well
known throughout the entire county,
and their many friends' here were
ihocked at the sad affair. The at
tending physician states, however,
that the patient la getting along
splendidly, considering the nature of
the Injury.
