Miss Jessie Hyde, one of the pri
mary grade teachers here, and well
loved by all her pupils, left Satur
day morning for Monmouth, Ore.,
where she will visit. Her little
pupils flocked to bid her goodbye
and godspeed at the station here,
presenting a beautiful picture and
a touching reminder of the innocent
faithfulness of children
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Lewis will
leave Sunday morning for a three
months' visit in Washington cities.
H. S. Bean, of sear Jacksonville,
Florida, father-in-law of S. J. Mur
phy, arrived for a vacation here,
Friday. Mr. Bean is superintend
ent of a large lumber firm in Florida,
and was granted a vacation of sev
eral weeks, given a little reminder
of $1,000 by the company and $10. a
day during his brief period of
rest here.

oned by Mrs. A. L. Hartley in the
absence of Mrs. Miller. Refresh
ments were served and a delightful

Henry Bauer was chosen dele

lodge to attend the meeting of the
grand lodge now being held in
Eugene. During his absence his

G. J. Wagner, one of the oldest
settlers and property holders of .Wal
lowa' county, spent several days vis
iting tn Joseph, returning here Mon
day morning. Mr. Wagner spends
:he most of his time in Portland,
though visiting Enterprise frequent
ly. Commissioner Sam Litch held ex
amination for the eighth grade In
the Alder school Friday. The Inter
est in the school jwork by the stu
dents has been pronounced during
the past year, and it is expected that
the bright young people will pass
the examinations readily.
Mrs. Bruce end five children ar
rived Friday and were met by O. J.
Roe of Alder Slope and added to
their new home, the former Rouse
ranch. Mr. Bruce and Mr. Purdin
have purchase! the Rouse ranch and
will move their families upon it,
working it in conjunction.

Mrs. J. T. Harvey, who recenty re
covered fronj an attack of ptomaine
poisoning, Jeft Monday with her lit
tle daughter for La Grande where
she wild spend several days visiting
and recuperating. Mrs. Bernard
Snow, Mrs. Harvey's mother, who
has been here several days, return
ed to La Grande with them.
The six months old infant of
James Winter, who suffered for
weeks from - many spasms, has re
covered under osteopathic treatment

County Assessor and Mrs. B. F.
Miller went to Promise Friday to
see their new grandson, a fine 10
pound boy born to Mr. and Mrs.
Lee Thompson, Wednesday, May 11.
Miss Welty, the well known trained
nuise of Wallowa, passed through
Enterprise on her way to Joseph,
Monday. She will nurse the child! of
Dr. and Mrs. Thompson of that city.

acres of Wallowa county land, in
the north portion of the county near
Paradise, spent Monday In Enter
prise. Mr. Bodmer is one of the

mencing July 6, 1910, and continu

REMAINS OF MRS, LUTHER
JOHNSON LAID TO REST
Mrs. Luthr Johnson, aged 72
years, died at her recent home on
the former Hamilton place, at 3
o'clock Sunday afternoon, and Tues
day morning the remains were tak
en to Wallowa for interment be
side those of her husband who had
preceded her In death.. Mr. and
Mrs. Johnson were old settlers In
the valley, and were .widely known
and dearly loved by ail who knew
them. None but the immediate rel
atives accompanied the remains to
Wallowa, Tuesday morning, where
the funeral was held in the after
noon, of that day. Those were: Mr.
and Mrs. N. D. Varner and family,
Mr. Tom Johnson, a son of the de
ceased, and family, and Mr. Henry
Horton, a brother of Mrs. Luther
Johnson
