postmaster a salary of $1200. Enter
prise has Jumped from that class to
the $1400 one, with receipts between
$3000 and $3500.
There Is no better Index of busi
ness than postal receipts, and these
show that this city is advancing as
rapidly, In proportion to size, as any
city In the state. Last year the
salary was increased from $1100 to
$1200. The receipts for the year
ending March 31, 1909, were $3103.
Enterprise and Joseph are the only
presidential offices ln the county,
The boom towns of Eugene, Hood
River and Medford only received
$100 Increases. Offlce3 that shared
with Enterprise a $200 raise are
Arleta, Lents, McMlnnvlUe, Newport,
Ontario, Seaside and Wasco, Hep
pner was reduced from $1600 to$1500,
Sumpter from $1400 to $1300, Hunt-

The state officers of the Oregon
Threshers association will meet with
ie threshers of Wallowa county at
the court house In Enterprise, Tues
day, June 15, at 10:30 a. m for the
purpose of organlzeing a County
Threshers association. These associa
tions are being formed all through
Oregon for the purpose of bettering
conditions as may seem to be for the
ben interest of the membership. One
of the principal lines of work is the
obtaining of better roads, and improv
ed bridge construction, which will
ueet with the approval of every tax
payer in this county.
