H. B. Brown, who owns a good
ranch on tb bluff above Troy, is
out with the pott Ion to the county
court for a bridge at Troy. It fcas
the names of 125 freeholders on it.
If any place ever needed a bridge,
on is seeded there. For three
weeks this winter the entire Troy,
Grouse and Bden country was with
out mall, and all trade is driven
over the mountains to Lewleton.

C. E. Vest sold for F. A. DePue
the south end of his home property,
240x230 feet,, to J. A. French, whose
home adjoins it on the west. At
the same time Mr. Vest himself
bought of DePue the north end of
the 5 acres conta'nlng the home and
other buildings. This part is S30z
160 in size and is one of the most
desirable residence lots in town.
Mr. Vest will make bis home there
after Mr. DePue and family leave (or
Eugene about May 1. The price paid
was not made public but street rumor
says it was close to 14000 for the 5
acres. ,

Ben Weathers has bought the in
terest of his former partner, J. W.
Allen, In the s one business room,
first door west of the postoffice,
formerly occupied by the Chieftain
plant.
Morgan Dairy Sold.
Thomas Morgan has sold his dairy
plant to Hugh Wlon of Joseph for
$3800. The deal includes 67 cows
and the milking machine. Mr. Mor
gan took 25 head of horses In the
deal, and about 200 acres of land ad
jacent to Joseph figures in the tran
saction, Mr. Morgan paying Mr. Wil
son a difference of $3000.
Lewis Mill Sold.
W. E. Lewis has sold his saw mill
to Lew Bloom and John Bowman.

of town.

Under the new emergency tax law
for the reapportionment of the
state revenue among the varioas
counties, Wallowa's share is raised
flOOO, and this county will have to
send $10,327.50 to Salem.
As far as Valloa is concerned we
have no great kick coming. Union
which wa3 already paying over $28,
000 state tax is raised to $29,707.50,
or nearly threo times that of this
county. This probably is about a
fair proportion.

Funeral services were held in the
Methodist church in this city Friday
at 11 a. m., the church being en

tlne. Rev. C. E. Trueblood spoke
words, of comfort and hope to the
bereaved family. Father Owen led
n prayer and the choir sang, "Lead,
Kindly Light" "Nea'er, My God, to
Thee," "Haven of Rest," and "Je
, o er of My Soul." A long cor

Nellie B. Allen, daughter of W, H.
and Anna Alien, was born In Bour
bon county, Kan., Dec. 27, 1878, and
He3 at her home near Enterprise,
Thursday, Feb. 23, 1909, aged 30
years, two months and 27 days. She
was married to William Chris Eades,
Oct. 6, 1899, at the home of her
parents near Lost'ne. She leaves to
mourn her death, a husband, ' two
sons and two daughters, the young

Kinney Pardoned.
Richard Kinney, sentenced to three
years In the penitentiary for partlc
ipating in a riot, has been pardoned
ty the governor. Kinney is the man
who escaped right after sentence, but
was captured at Walla Walla by

much for the upper valley and prob

Wallowa county Is Initiated by the
filing In the county clerk's office of
the articles, of incorporation of the
Wallowa Lake l ight and Power com-
