land. P. Provost has gone to Berkeley,
Calif., to spend the holidays with his
daughters, after which ho will go
on to Arizona for the rest of the win
ter. A motormeter was stolen from au
Essex car at the Southern Pacific
station last evening during the few
moments the ownor went Into the
station. The police are cognizant
of the party who made the theft and
state that trouble can be averted by
returning the stolen article to th"
owner.

Betty Walker, the four-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. It. I.. Wal
ker, was struck by n Ford runabout
yesterday afternoon and was b'idly
bruised. Betty and another little
girl were crossing Granite street.
They waited until one car passed.
then attempted to cross, not seeing
the runabout that came up at a rapid
speed immediately behind the first
car. Betty was struck by the flying
runabout and knocked heavily to the
pavement, while the car sped on
without stopping to see the Injury

In the contest for selling tickets
to the art exhibit among the schools
last week the sixth grade of the Haw
thorne school made the rtrgest num
ber of sales and was awarded the
picture, "Sunset toil the Meadows."
The third grade of Junior High sold
the next highest number and receiv
ed the picture, "By the River." The
pictures will be hung In the school
rooms of the pupils who earned
them.
John t Almack and D. L. Ijams,
business nieu of Eugene, wore Ash
land visitors yesterday.
Miss Kern Murphy Is back from
Eugene for the Christmas holidays,
Miss Murphy is a student at the uni
versity In that city.
VV. M. Murklee of Chicagp, an old
time friend of C. W. Nims, was In
Ashland spending a few duys at the
home of the latter during the past
week, while on his way to San Fran

A package conluining about $25
worth of Christmas gifts was stolen
out of a car standing on East Main
street In frout of Jordan's Electric
store early lust evening.
Frank A. Terry, district represen
tative of the Equitable Savings and
Loan association of Portland, was a
business visitor in Ashland today.
Mrs. Eugene Holmes came over
from Weed yesterday to pay a Bhort
viBit to friends and look after busi
ness affairs In this city.
A number of Ashland automobile
owners hnve received their 1921 li
cense plates. The new plates nre
green with white letters, much the
same as the Washington license of
1920.
Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Conner came
home last evening from Oaklund,
where they had been spending seve
ral weeks looking after business af
fairs. They made the trip by auto
mobile, and had some trouble com
ing over the mountains yesterday on
account of the heavy snows that bad
fallen Sunday. Mr. Conner stated
they struck bad roads first this side
of Dunsmuir, which contluued until
they passed Weed, when they ran
out of the snow and had good roads
until they reached the Sisklyous. Here
snow was badly drifted and a num
ber of cars were stuck in the drifts
and had to be hauled out by teams.
Mr. and Mrs. Conner were In Santa
Rosa at the time of the lynching of
the three men there recently. They
stated that community was In a ter
ribly excited state, Jjut that littte
sympathy was expended on the vic
tims of the lynchers.

Mrs. U. P. Porter left last night
for San Jose, California, called there
by a telegram telling of the death
of her son-in-law. She expects to
be gone several days.

been spondlng several weeks in Ash
land "where they had come for the
benoflt of Mr. Malone's health, left

City. The lattor Is feeling much
better than he did on his arrival.

Montana, Is spending a day or two

Mrs. F. F. Whittle returned home
last evening from a local hospital
where she had undergone an opora
tlon a week or so ago. She Is
making a good recovery and hopes
are entertained that she will be
about again shortly.
While coming down Iowa street on
to the Boulevard this morning. A.
M. Beaver strurk a Bpot on the street
where- water had run over It and
froien. A collision with the curb
was Inevitable, and resulted In the
smashing a rear wheel of Mr.
Beaver's Chevrolet car. The auto
mobile stayed right side up, however,
and the occupants were uninjured.

O. E. Hislop of Portland are regis
tered at the Hotel Austin today.
Donald Spencer of the local post-
office force has been laid up since
Friday of last week with an attack
of sickness. He Is icported better
this morning, however, and expects
soon to be around again.

Seven Million Goes To
Ford Workers
GASH BONUS FOR 1920 SHARED BY 75,000
Edsel B. Ford, President of the Ford Motor Company, Detroit, has announced
that the regular eash bonus established December 31. 1919, will be continued on the
same basis this year. Bomis checks are now being made out and distribution of thein
will start the first of January. These bonuses are in excess of $7,000,000.00 and wil
be shared by approximately 75,000 men.
In addition- the Foord Motor Company announces an extra three per cent for
the six months ending December 31, on Ford Investment Certificates. This is in
addition to the guaranteed six per cent, (8 per cent Laving been paid July 31, 1920)
making a total of H per cent for the year 1920.
Every one in the employ of the company prior to October 1; this year and on
the payroll December 31, receives a bonus. The bonus goes to the employe flee and
clear. Ilowever, if he wishes, he may invest his money in Ford Investment Certif
icates which carry a guaranteed interest of C per cent and also two special pay
ments decided on by the directors of the company. .
The bonus affects Ford employes at work in the Ford Factory, Detroit; Ford
Blast Furnaces and Tractor Plant, River Rouge, Mich., all United States branches,
besides the foreign branches at Copenhagen, Denmark; Bordeaux, France; Cadiz,
Spain; Buenos Airei, Argentine; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Montevidio. Uruguay, and Cork,
Ireland. -
