Such was the advice Dr. N. O. Covington, associate professor of physiology at Washington State college, gare women students at the University here recently. “ Nicotine harms girls more than men,” said Dr. Covington, “because the nervous system of the former sex Is more delicate. Smoking affects the nervous end ings in our entire system and acts with paralysing effect upon the emotions for a short. time. Conse quently, it makes a woman look old before her tim e.’’ Dr. Covington explained that although smoking soothes t h e nerves and gives a feeling of reet- fulness, the nicotine often para lysis the nerves of the stomach, causing indigestion aq,d tempor arily dulling the brain.
