combination o f pump, splash, and gravity feed. T h e pump
delivers die o il to the valve chamber, from w hich it flows
by gravity feed to the m ain bearings o f the crankshaft.
A n o il dipper is provided on each connecting rod bearing
O p , so mat the force o f rotation o f the crankshaft drives
o il into die connecting rod bearings, as w all as splashing

lubrication o f each bearing and each cylinder without

T h e Ign itio n system o f the new Ford Is unique In mechan­
ical design, extremely simple, and w ill give the car owner
exceptional performance w ith a m inim um o f trouble.
T h e re is only one coil, in a w ater-proof case. T h e distrib­
u to r is located on«top o f thé engine w here it is d ean and
easily acceaalM r Connections are mode to die spark­
plugs by short bronzy springs. T h e coincidental lode on
dm new Ford is placed in the ignition circuit. I t not only
replaces the regular ig n itio n switch, but in the "off” posi­
tio n grounds the entire d u rait. From the switch to the
distributor a steal cable protects the prim ary current wire,
this w ire being grounded to the distributor casing, thereby
m aking it impossible to w ire around the device. T h e new
generator is o f the power-house type.
T h e springs are o f the transverse, semi-elliptic type, de­
signed and. built fo r the new Ford. T h ia type, w hich was
used in the M o d el T , was adapted to t i e new car because
no better spring type could be found. T hey are built o f
the finest spring steel, and the leaves are w id e, and thin.
Each spring is built up o f varying sixes and number o f leaves
to give proper flexibility and to meet rid in g requirements
o f die different body types. T h e size and number o f leaves
used in these springs is one o f the reasons why the new Ford
is such a comfortable qar. T h e constructiqn o f the trans­
verse springs also contributes to the safety and efficiency o f
the 4-wheel brakes.

floating type. T h e axle housings are made entirely o f steel,
built up by w elding steel forgings to steel tubing. T h e dif­
ferential housing, to w hich these housings are bolted, is
made o f rolled channel steel. T h e axle shafts carry none o f
the w eight o f d ie car, the wheels running on ro lle r bearings
on the nousing. A ll bearings in the rear axle arc o f the
ro lle r type. D rive is by spiral bevel gear.'

FORD-DESIGNED StEEL-SPOKB WHEELS
O rig in a l design and great strength are tw o features that
m ark the unique, Ford-designed steel-spoke wheels. Bach
wheel is assembled by w elding, and becomes one piece o f
metal. Spokes cannot w o rk loose. Each spoke has a ten­
sile strength o f 4 0 0 0 pounds. Outside spokes do not cross,
so that the wheels are easy to dean. T h ere are only 30
spokes in each wheel.
