Ashland H igh Defeats Rose-
burg 56 to 0 in Fine Game
Played a t A thletic Field
Yesterday — Dedication
of Grandstand W as B ig
Feature.
- -
By Billy Hnlen
Led by an unheralded star. M
second string Ashland H l defeat
ed Roseburg here yesterday, 56-0.
This yonag man. a Mr. Wiley,
flashed some of the best open
field running seed' this year. His
long runs and blocking were the
features af an otherwise ragged
game.
The first Ashland score came
as a result of a thrilling 45 yd.
dash by Wiley. It was on a reverse
play and with perfect Interference
he ran to the Roseburg ten. A’ *
few plays later Leedom heaved a
pas» to Simpson for tpe score.
All through the game both
teams played ragged ball.
A queer feature of the game
was that the crimson and white
did not kick once. Only in ‘ the
closing minute« of the game did
Roseburg tty-eaten to score. •
In a last desperate attempt to
score they opened up an axial At
tack that took the ball slowly
down the field. The game ended
with the oval on the fifteen yd.
stripe.
Gandee, fnll back, played a
stellar game. Ha scored t w o
touchdowns and backed ap the
line perfectly on defenae. The
playing of Abbott’s tackle w a g
when he broke through a n d
blocked a puat. Not katisfied he
then fell on it for six points. Also
out of seven tries for conversions
he completed seven. Leedom eon-
verted the other. “Sonny” played
his usual long running and pa—-
ing game.
Enough sal^.
The starting lineup was com
posed mostly of second string man
and they made a vary good record
for themselves.
The game marked tbs dedica
tion of the big grandstand by the
Lithlans who built it last faU. A
speech by Professor Vining dar
ing the half intermission was the
feature.
'
A good crowd attended the
game. The Ashland starting Una-,
up and scoring follows:
, E Katser, E. Simpson, T. Ab
bott, T Keaton, O. Brown, G.
Moore, C. Madden, Q. Nutter, H,
Leedom, H. Wiley, F. Hitchcock.
Touchdowns: Gandee, J;- Leo-
dom, 2; Wiley 1; Abbott. 1; Ro
ger, 1; Simpson. 1. Convertiona^
Abbott, 7; Leedom, 1.
