In F a ll’s act In 1922 granting the Teapot Dome oil lease to- the mammoth oil company of Sin- clair, the alleged conspiracy to defraud took place. 8hortly after the tria l opened Owen Robert, government prose- cptor, gave an outline of the cnee a n d -th e manner in which the government hopes to be able to prove fraud. The government eutUaing ita case told the Jury It would a t- tempt to prove that the form er secretary of the Interior and 8ln- clair conspired to defraud t h e government when F all leased the Teapot Dome to Sinclair’s com- pany. Roberts declares leasing the reserve was linked with the transfer of 8300,000 in Liberty bonds from Sinclair to F a l l through his private secretary. He said the government would show that Sinclair visited F a ll at his New Mexico ranch three months before t'he'lease was granted and later the Liberty Bonds, part of the profit on the oil deal, were found in the poaseeaion of F a ll’s ranch manager.
