Mrs. Evelyn Pierce, 16, daugh­
ter of Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Taylor
of this city, is stricken with in­
fantile paralysis and is in a crit­
ical condition at the home of her
parents. 633 Iowa street. T h e
paralysis hag affected the respira­
tory system and little hope is
held for her recovery.
The illness of Mrs. Pierce
brings the paralysis development
in thia city in the last two days
to two, little Peggy Wallin, two
year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Wallin, haring b e e n
stricken Sunday.
Members of the school board,
the board of health and Dr. E.
A. Woods, will meet this evening
to consider the advisability of
stricter quarantine measures.
A party scheduled for Wednes­
day afternoon was ordered called
off by Dr. Sweednburg, e I t y

erings will probably be discontin­
ued.

sponsible for an auto wreck on
the Greenspringe Saturday eve­
ning which resulted In D. T.
Warper's car being badly damag­
ed was fined $25 and costs of
the case and agreed to pay for
damages done to the Warner car,
when he appeared before Justice
of the Peace Glen O. Taylor of
Medford.
James J. Martyn, operating a
"wildcat” stage from Sacramento
to Eugene, and who was arrested
by Traffic Officer O. O. Nichols,
was fined 610 and coats and re­
turned to Sacrament?.

hanging James Hayes, convicted
of murder, it will be impossible to
carry out the sentence of t h e
court, Oct. 21.
While Hayes has spent his time
playing popular tunes on a phon­
ograph In his cell, Sheriff James
Kent has been occupied in finding
a method of overcoming failure
of the board to provide funds for
hanging. It Is hoped the sentence
may be carried out "on credit."
Hayes was convicted of killing
Mrs. Dollie Flatt who objected to
his attentions to her daughter.
Following an order issued by
Dr. F. O. 8wedenburg, city health
officer, hostesses for the after­
noon bridge party scheduled to
have been held Wednesday at the
Civic Clubhouse, postponed the
affair Indefinitely.

of pupils was upheld today by a
decision of Judge McCulloch of
Baker sitting in Multnomah
county court.
The decision was brought In

son, lit. who was dismissed from
school because she refused to be
examined on religious principles.
Mrs. Williams sought re-in­
