“ A report of which Mhland. may be proud,”

of the activities of that organisation in this city

And Ashland is proud of the report too.
- When we can reach 163 representative youths
of our community and engage them in worthwhile
activities, with a Christian background—when they
can be brought together in good fellowship, of
sendee and play—w.e are building a foundation for
the right sort of future cititenship and meeting in
a logical way the trend of youth toward ultra-'
modernism.

• The recent ooBferring of degrees by a Middle
Wegterlr university upon a number of farmers whose
work had been of aid in the progress of agriculture,
is a salient exainple of American democracy. It
hut shows again that this if the one great country
in the worldwherc a aihn is rewarded and judged
entirely upon bis wdrk, and not. by social and
eeflftkRnie atamdaids beyond his control. These men
beTig given this honor was hut little commented
upon for the reason that it is nothing unusual; the

i t In Europe, on the contrary, should anything
like this happen, It would be bo . unprecedented as
to he a sensation. That ig one o f the reasons for
tha immsngf difference in progressiveness between
the two continents. .
There can be no danger of radicalism or any
other “ ism” where democracy prevails. I f is im
possible toAinake a malcontent of M person who
knows there is nothing that will opposed him should
he. have sufficient ability to bqpome a great busi
ness man, statesman or anything pise. Perfectly
contented people won’t trouble themselves to follow
highly dubious theories of “ what might be done.”
