SEATTLE, Sept. 17.— (LP) —
What is considered as an attempt
to modernise Sunday s c h o o l
teachings was won at the 44th an
nual Puget Sound conference of
the Methodist Episcopal chnrch
here today.
The more modern members of
the conference asked an amend
ment to conference rules calling
"adhrence- to Christ’s teaching in
Sunday schools in accordance to
a changing world.” The “chang
ing world” phrase stirred many of
the ministers and brought forth
the first bitter debate of the ses
sion.
A faction, led by the Rev. J.
Crowther, Seattle, fougbt for the
amendment and won. Rev. Crow
ther said he differed from the lit
eral translation of the Bible and
quoted as an example the «pas
sage where Moses says that, child
ren who disobey their parents
should be stoned to death.
