May Fly Yet
SAN FRANCISCO, July 1.—
(IP)—The monoplane "City of
Oakland," may re-start Its pro
jected flight to Honolulu this
week, but Captain Charles Car
ter will not navigate It.
Carter objected to an immed
iate resumption of the flight yes
terday after a broken windshield
had forced the plane to return to
Oakland Airport shortly after tak
ing off. His objection revealed
that dissension had arisen be
tween him, Ernest L. Smith, -pi
lot, and Edmund J. Moffett, prin-r
clpal backer.
After a conference with Mof
fett today Carter announced:
"I am not interested any more

Modern Independence
When on Monday Ashland celebrates In
dependence Day with its good old-fash
ioned picnic, we shall celebrate in reality
thé ability ot the forefathers to make
drastic sacrifioes and their triumph over
difficulttes.
Attaining modern independence is not
nearly so difficult for it entails no ex
treme sacrifioes; just the ability to spend
less than one earns, coupled with a desire
to get ahead.
