The four men killed In the
holdup were: Sidney L. Bates, en­
gineer;
Marvin Seng, firem an,

attitude of surrender; Boyl O.
Johnson, brakeman; E. E. Dough­
erty, mail clerk.
All of the men w ere Ashland
residents and the people of this
city were incensed by the heinous
crime and there was scarcely any­
one in the city who did not parti­
cipate in the search for the .crim ­
inals fallow ing the wreck.
It was 10 days after the holdup
before suspicion was attached to
the D’Autremont brothers, and
postal authorities and crlpie ex­
perts 3tarte<Fto weave a chain of
circum stantial evidence, which
seem ed impregnable.
For fo u r years the- search for
the brothers continued and it war
not until March 15 o f this year
that Hugh, the youngest of the
trio, was caught in the P hillipine
islands where he was serving in
the U. S. army.
H e stoutly maintained his lnno-
cense and during the entire per­
iod of M istrial never once showed
that the strain of gu ilt was on
his soul.
