Thia first class was made up of
Juniors from the Drain Normal
and graduates from the Ashland,
Medford and Grants Pass high
schools. The State Normal diplo­
mas at that time and up to 1899
were good as teaching certificates
in any country or state. The first
appropriation in 1899 was >7600,
and the last in 1907 was 940,000.

for the Playground and Recrea­
tional Association, of America, and
has 11 states under, his jnridsio-
tion, visited Ashland yesterday
evening after an extended session

Mr. Braden was met la Med­
ford by Secretary J. H. Fuller and
brought to Ashland where he met
Mies Fay Carver at the Children’s
Playground and examined the
equipment and work being con­
ducted there. .He was escorted
over the entire city by Mr. F ull­
er, viewing the Park from all the
high points also the Springe and

A trip was made to the Ashland
Golf Course where Mr. Braden was
introduced to a group of Ashland
people. Mr. Braden stated that
atthongh he frequently passed
through on the train this was his
first stop at the city, and that
henceforh he should be a m ost en­
thusiastic booster for Ashland.
