- THE M Ih Y ESTABLISHED IN 1876 ASHLAND DAILY TIDINGS rryI»»Qae "THE MASK oberta Outlines ' in D’Autremont Trial opyrighted, 1927, 0« Copyrighted, XptS-9 Hi-Y Chib« Mothers Night FuMMhed by It is interesting to note the action taken by the Hi-Y dnf> in designating one night to be observed as Mothers night and furthermore to have the mothers attend a meeting of this organisation. The Hi-Y elob ’- is made np of some of the finest boys in the com munity. They are interested in the club to which they belong, and are doing their share to build the oom- munity in which they live, into a better one, and this act of theirs is but a striking example of the thought fulness and solicitude which marks their every act Father and Sons night is usually observed by * most civic clubs and we hear long dissertations upon the interest that a father should take in his off spring, and its presumed that we just take for grant ed that Mothers aradtterested in their boya, and attach no special sigBflcanee to i t Its the way of the world. Mother» are usually taken for granted, but when Father steps out and does something a little out of the ordinary, he is as proud as a peacock ever it, and struts about with a complacent grin all over his face, waiting for some one to eome along and pat him on the back, so that he can strut just a bit more. But when Mother does the same thing, she makes no attempt to boast of it, or to call special to her activities. Its part of the days work Ashland boys are to be congratulated Upon remembering that mothers play an important part in their lives. Thty are to.be commended for this thoughtful act of designating a special night fonder, a night when she may sit in upon, one of their w est ings, know what they are doing and perhaps, in her infinite wisdom make some unexpected suggestion that will open paths leading to greater service. We will wager that the mothers will all be there, and we will douhle the bet, and ventnre the .pTedietie#1hat the interest they show in the Hi-Y chib wilt se that tafeaabw »feem will bè litlle comparison. -Ä Our Red Crew Contribution» ‘1 7 ■ i Ashland*« 9ed Crocs contribution» to the Mini»- sippi flood victims fund i are coming » slowly. While there has bass bo definite campaign mapped out n c r ; has there been any direct solicitation, jhe chapter officials prefering to have the contributions eome from vdlunteers, the amount raised so far, has been rather disappointing. One hundred and seventy two' dollars was the amount pubfished last. This, amount is so small for a sity as wealthy, and prosperous an ours that it borders oq the edge of being shameful. When the intense suffering of those who have been driven from their homec by the swollen waters of this great river are taken'into consideration, when the hungry children, their food supply swept np from their tiny outstretched arms, are thought of, when the harrased motfiers and anxious fathers have to sec the work of a life time disappear, and they powerless to stop it, then, it would seem that Ash land could dig a little deeper, could give a little mare willingly than they have in the p ast This matter deserves our most careful and prompt attention. The quota has been doubled, and now is the time for Ashland to come to the front, and do her part in relieving the misery and suffer ing that this disaster has created. See the treasurer today, Mr. George Eubanks, and have a free con science when you read or thfcritapf the thousands that are homeless, through no ftfilit of their own. The pend Indian Road It is with conaidemble interest that we’ note .the work the Chamber of Commerce is doing in opening up the Dead Indian road. This ia a most constructive step and one if carried to completion will mean mpefe to the business interests of thia ¿Ity. There are many families living in thia vicinity, or ae wa have been told. The road conditions are •uch that' not more than once a week and nutny not that often, win a trip to Ashland or other centers ba attempted. If the Chamber of are responsible for this road In afeapa good enough to allow on- dtnary travel, and if by doing this, the people living in thia vicinity are allowed to get into Ashland aa often aa tfeoae who reside in other farming districts A e n they will have performed a real service, and Yhouid i remaive the hearty cooperation of even in- atitntion l who wiU directly benefit by thia act.'
