The meeting
of the
Bellview
P. T . A. was held la the school
house Friday night. A p ril IS , with
a fairly good attendance. The
President, Mrs. 8. K. Barnes,
brought up in business meeting,
the matter of having a cooked
food sale, or a basket supper for
the serving club girls, to aid in
sending their delegates to Corval
lis for the summer session. I t was
pat to a vote and decided to hold
a cooked food sale and do away
with the idea of a box social. At
some near date this w ill be an
nounced. Mrs. Norma Reeder
very ably reported the County P.
T. A. Convention at Oak Grove
school, to which she was a dele
gate from the Bellview P. T. A.
and at which meeting she was
made vice-preaident of the coun
ty association.
The last ja w dance at the clnb
house was another success.
It
was held after the P. T. A. meet
ing Friday night and a number of
the members went over to the club
house to enjoy the evening of
F or three days the fire raged.
Golden Gate park was a refugee
camp. Looters were shot down as
they prowled through the ruins.
The Palace hotel was in flames.
Streets were fillee with .brick and
debris. M arket street was a tra il
of desolation. Smoke and ashes
poured upward. Banker and la
borer toiled side by side In the
wreckage. Buildings shuddered
and fell as dynamite was used to
check the flames.
There was not water—- only
fire.
. .
Caruso, plunging headlong J in
night attire from his hotel, vowed
never to return to San Francisco
and never did. Nineteen babies
were born in Golden Gate park.
A hundred thousand persons fled
tp the city, cramming highways,
trains and steamers. Tw enty eight
thousand buildings burned to the
ground. The property loss In the
q^ake and fire was $400,(100,000.
In the last twenty one years
$700,000,000 has been spent in
replacements.

byterians of the Went have set
themselves, under the leadership
of W ill H . Hays, Andrew Mellon

Instead of every other week.
Bo
the committee definitely decided
to hold modern dances at the club
each week, as long as it provee a
paying proposition. Fridays w ill
be the night, and the next dne will,
.be on April 29th.
It is surprising how popular the
new home is getting to be to oth
ers than the community. Two or
ganisations have asked permission
to rent it for two evenings this
week. One for a private dance
and -the other for initiation pur-
poses.
Miss Clara Hnck of the Soda
Springs school, is planning to give
* play at the club some night next
week, and we are glad to havg ao
attractive a place for them.

The Main Thing
Some wise loon tins said that a good repu
tation is one of the things that liavato bo
arranged for in advance. In onr business
wc consider j t the main thing. Equipment,
skill—even the uesire to serve—would be
vain without the confidence of our fellow-
citizens.
