Two hundred and forty pas­
sengers were on the first chair
car excursion run by the Southern
Pacific between Portland and San
Francisco in many years, accord­
ing to railroad officials who were

ducement as well as the cold
weather that developed in Port­
land Thursday, both\of which are
thought to have contributed to the
