If you know the baker of the bread you buy, or depend
on the name on the wrapper—you know the; bread is
wholesome, with the fresh flavor you like. If you don’t
know the baker or name on the wrapper, you buy the
bread, you take a chance. Bread costs only a few cents.
You can afford that dliance.
Yet suppose instead of bread, it ’s an expensive watch.
Or suppose instead of something that must taste good to
he good, it ’s a medicine that must be pure in a way you
can’t taste—or else do actual harm. You’d want to be
sure about that watch.
You’d have to be sure about
that medicine.
There’8 one way to be sure. Buy ouly the widely adver
tised. Whatever is thrown open to unlimited public test
is safe for you to use the way it is recommended for you
to use. Names you can depend upon stand behind i t

No one realises more fully the importance of prompt
payment of obligations than the professional man
or the merchant, for his own livelihood depends
upon that factor. And if the man or woman living
upon salary or income will stop and think, “ What
should I do If my weekly or monthly cheek were
held up a month—even a week?”—he too will real
ise the fair-mindedness of discharging one’s debts
as they become due.
There a n very few valid exeuses for inability to
do so. The man who budgets his income and lives
within his means knows how much he will owe at
a giYon date and has the money to pay it. If he is
thrifty, he has a surplus laid aside for emergencies
and will not have to touch the money which really
belongs to the grocer, the butcher, the doctor, the
dother, if sudden need arises.
Think of your obligations in that light. You have
enjoyed the use of the merohandiee or the services
of the professional man, and the money in your
pocket is rightfully his. If you are qarelees, re
solve to mend your ways now. If on the other
hand, yeur tardiness is the result of improper man
agement, make Thrift Week the, beginning of a
new, orderly scheme of living and budgeting.
