of “round-the-world girls" to ar­
rive in Manila la Increasing month
by month and threatens to be­
come a problem for the considera­
tion of the American authorities.
“Round-the-world girls" Is the
name given to hundreds of Ameri­
can girls who. In an attack of
waadsrlnst and tired of the re­
straints of home, set ont west-
restless age.
Their first stop Is usually Hon-
lulu where they work as steno­
graphers, newspaper reporters,
guides, clerks and some less dig­
nified positions; and write home
about Waikiki Beach, moonlight
and nkeleles.
They save and
think of the day when they will
board a ship for Japan and
China. Their plan Is to stop in
each place Just long enough to
save money for the next hop.

Of course stranded round-the-
world girls never quite reach the

but not infrequently their prob­
lem must be settled by voluntary
