Johnny's boll dog sprang at him
causing the assailant to drop his
run and beat a hasty retreat. Mr.
Rivers recovered the gun and la

in an appearance and claim It.
Oil Penland sustained a slight
scratch on his hand a week
ago Thursday, while doctoring a
horse.
By the follow ing Mon­
day morning blood poisoning had
set In and his condition was quite
serious the early part of the week.
He Is reported to be doing nice­
ly at this time.
Wm. Reed of the Hooser Or­
chard has been laid up the last
week with flu and tonsilitis but
is able to be out again.

— There Is a saying among old
prospectors that ’most anything
can be found in Nevada, and one
is inclined to accept 1 the state­
ment as at least partly true, now
that a school o f gold fish has been
discovered In an open spring in
Newark valley, south of Carlin.
The golden flnnies appeared to
be perfectly at home in their pond
where all attem pts to capture
them failed because o f the sur­
rounding soft and deep mad. How
the fish came to the spring is an­
other unsolved m ystery o f the
Great American Desert.
