Resolved, that if a new Court House be built in Medford, a 10
mill tax shall be levied to run a term of Five years, or if we vote
to keep the County Seat in Jacksonville a 1 1-2 mill tax shall be
levied for one year to be used in making our present Court House
Fire Proof and Modern and to build additional room for our required
space.
Now, my dear electors, what are we going to do, vote a 10
mill tax for fivg, years and sacrifice all our Court House holdings in
Jacksonville for the sake of moving to Medford, or will we vote a
1 1-2 mill tax to make onr present Court House comfortable for a
term of years. It would cost ns a little better than Seven times
as much hard cash (plus the loss of all our present court house hold
ings at Jacksonville) to move to Medford than it would to remain
comfortably located where we are. Give this subject a thought be
fore you cast your* ballot.
J. B. WETTERER, . . . . . .
WILBUR CAMERON. . . .
Why not keep the county business in the present building that
belongs to the county and take a few thousand dollars and make
any needed addition, if any is really needed. What would become of
the fine jail, machine barns and the most beautiful site for a court
house in the county? An. agitator was asked “ How about the jail
and machinery barns?“ He said, “ I guess they would be left where
they are, as there will be no jail in the promised building for tem
porary use.“ So if they win the county business will still be scat
tered as bad as they say it is now. The various offioes now located
in Medford are >11 so located in defiance of .the law which says all
county offices shall be located at the County Seat
But what about the Tax-Payers?

We, the undersigned are making the following statement for
the benefit of the legal voters of Jackson County, said statement be
ing a verbal one given us by our two commissioners. Not many days
ago our County Court (composed of our Judge and two Commission
ers) signed a resolution instructing our County Clerk to place on the
ballot for our next November 2nd election,
Even this inadequate and insufficient building that is promised
in a vague way, is uncertain and largely visionary. There will be
no way to enforce any snch agreement and it is certain there will be
found a way to evade it, if the election goes to suit the agitators.
This vague promise is made with the deliberate intent to deceive
the voters. This disposes of thd bunk that the county will not be
made to pay for any court house for several yean. If the county
seat is voted to be removed, the county would be forced to rent
and hira various and divers rooms and buildings scattered all around
until such time as the money for a new building, could bo forced
from the taxpayers to build a new one. This would bo four or five
yean and in the meantime our large, fine Court House would stand
idle and of no use to any one, a complete loss of several hundred
thousand dollars. A business man who would undertake to do aa silly
and unbusinesslike a deal as this would soon go out of business.
Vote YES or NO
337 NO. I vote against the foregoing measure.
There is no fear with Jacksonville as to the report of the Archi
tects as we know our Court House (though it was erected in 1883)
will stand even a more severe inspection than a few of our noted
buildings that were built in Jackson County during the year of 1925.
IT WILL NOT, for the reason that a suitable building CAN NOT
POSSIBLY BE BUILT FOR $50,000. That amount will not build a
suitable building even one half as COMMODIOUS AND SUITABLE
AS THE PRESENT COURT HOUSE. Every one knows this to be
a fact, the agitators included.
paying principal or interest of bonds from state general fund with
repayment from bond fund; taxes levied to provide such moneys;
appropriating $250,000 from general fund returnable from the water
and power revolving fund.
336 Yes. I vote for the foregoing measure.
' The statement means that should the electors o f Jackson County
vote to leave the County Seat at Jacksonville, our County Court
will secure a few of the very best disinterested Architects to determine
the exact condition of our present Court House, if they agree that
the structure is well preserved and has good values, our County
Court will proceed to provide necessary space in which to carry on
our Court House business.
