WASHINGTON. Oct. 18.— (U-
P ) — A gigantic airplane capable
of flight from New York to Lon­
don, o tt from
Francisco to
Hawaii, was recently completed
by the Hnff Dalan Company at
Bristol, Pennsylvania, for the
United States Army Air Corpa.
This great machine known aa
''Cyclops,” la the greatest single
engine airplane ever built, and
was designed as a bomber. Until
recently It was known aa the
"Mystery P lane”,° but specifica­
tions of it now are published in
"United States Air Service.”

weigh 17,000 pounds and will
carry a useful load of 9,000
pounds. The span is 85 feat,
length *5 feet, speed 125 miles
per Hbur, with fuel capacity for
24 hours.
The machiae has m ountings for
ten machine-guns and~ racks for
either one <,000-pound bomb
or four 1,000-pound bomba.
The structure is entirely o f
metal, the material being chiefly
chrome molybdenum steel.
When completed "Cyclops” was
equipped with a Packard 800
horsepower engine. Later, how­
ever, this will be replaced ny a
new twenty-four cylinder air-qpol-
ed 1,200
horsepower
engine
now being constructed by Air
Corps engineers.
"Cyclops” is the result of pro­
tracted experim ents during and
after the war. Improved Intl-air-
craft guns and pursuit planes nec­
essitated high-flying capacity for
bombing-planes and gjso capacity
to carry heavy bombs.
