meetings between the evangelist
and her former radio operator in
a fashionable hotel.
The prelim inary tria l, replete
with startling disclosures, reach

bermaid at the Ambassador hotel,'
took the stand and testified that
the Bible teacher retained a room
in the famous hostelry and on at
least one occasion she had seen
Kenneth O. Ormiston visit (the

testimony which temporarily left
the defense stunned.
The witness was bombarded hyi

surface the bitter undercurrent of
religions feeling that has ’ char

Miss Callahan testified that

But there is still another asset which justly brings
this city widespread fame. That is its health-giving
Li thia water as well as its other mineral waters of un
told medicinal value.
When the visitor thinks of Ashland he thinks
of Lithia water. And when he thinks of Lithia water
he thinks of the bubbling springs and sparkling moun
tain streams.
Is Ashland to lose the prestige which it has
fought through the years to attaiq? It is going to
admit that it does not care enough for its water to pro
tect it?
For our part, we do not believe this to be true.
We do not believe that the people of this city are go
ing to throw away this priceless heritage.

Identifies Ormiston
Ashland has one major asset that brings it in
creasing fame and recognition with each passing
year. That asset is its environment.
This city is known far and wide as one of the
most delightful home cities on the entire Pacific
coast. People eome“here to spend their summers, and
their winters, too. Nowhere in Oregon’or on the Pa
cific coast can the climate of Ashland be duplicated.
It escapes the days of endless fogs so coijmon to
other points in Southern Oregon during the winter
months. It misses the scorching heat which strikes
the lower levels during the mid-summer months.

" I saw a strange man enter
the room on at least one occa
sion,” said the witness, who then
identified OrmiBton from a photo
graph.
"Did you ever report that a
strange man had entered
the
room of a woman guest?” asked
Attorney Gilbert for the defense.
“ Yes, I reported it
to the
housekeeper,” Miss Callahan re
plied.
“ You have heard Aimee Semple
McPherson over the radio, have
you not?” Gilbert demanded.

It is the contention of this newspaper that the
municipal water supply is definitely interwoven with
the mineral water supply. We wish to cite just one
instance to prove our point. Our Lithia and other
mineral waters are piped down from nearby hills to
our beautiful Lithia Park, admittedly the finest
municipal park along the coast.
But what ’of our Lithia Park today? Take a
stroll through the park and you will find lawns which
should be green faded and seared and unprepossess
ing. That distressing state of affairs has but one
answer. That is the lack of sufficient water.
This year the water supply was so low that all
sprinkling of lawns in Lithia Park had to ho haltetf.
.The park which all of us cherish and which draws an
uutold number of visitors to the city each summer
suffered immeasurably as a result of thia shortage.
The mineral water piped down to^our park lost much
of its value and
• effectiveness because • of the uninvit-
¡ng appearance of the park.
There is only one way in which this condition
can he remedied A bigger and better water system
is needed.

Through the cooperation of the mayor and city
council, The Tidings is enabled to present the sev
eral projects embraced within the general water im
provement program before the people of Ashland.
Starting Monday The Tidings will publish daily a
full resume of what the council has done and why
it has done it. It wants the people to understand all
phases of the situation that they may be able to« vote
intelligently.
If at any time during this series there are mat
ters which are not clear, The Tidings invites in
quiries and gfives assurance that it will endeavor to
answer all questions. It is our desire to place all
facts before the voters in so far as it lies within our
ability to do so.
In all fairness to the city and its future we urge
that the water question be considered on its merits
alone. The political fortunes of any candidate or any
group of candidates should pot become identified
with this water bond election. Personalities should
not be considered.
TfyjfGw the searchlight of reason and sound judg
ment on the water question and then vote your honest
convictions. Read this series of articles starting Mon
day. You owe it to yourself and your city to obtain
all possible information.
