Chief df Police McNabb is entitled to the sincere
thanks Vf every mother -anff father in Ashland for h is
genuine efforts eliminate possible tragedies at street
intersections where little tots pa«s several times daily
on their way to and from school.
The « lic e campaign to teach •sM M >st they
must proved Slowly skid with due caution padt these
intersections should receive the support of evfery citi-
aen of Ashland, including every man or woman Who
operates a motor vehicle.
I t so happens that practically all of the school
intersections are either «to the Boulevard or on North
»«& Stro&t, both of Which are a part of the Pacific
highway system.
Unthinking autoists will drive through these
roadways "at an excessive rate of speed, and some day,
unless the campaign is successful, some little inno
cent life is going to be snuffed out.
It is entirely proper that the time to start cam
paigns such as this is before some tragedy brings
grief and heartaches into some loeal hefcne. The little
tots cannot be blamed if they become confused at the
approach of a swiftly moving motor vehicle. When
such confusion arises, the motorist will be unable to
avoid striking the child even though he or she ex
ercises the greatest possible caw and judgment.
The safest plan is for all motorists tô proceed
slowly through the city limits and to approach all
street intersections within the school zones at a slow
rate of speed. Accidents, witb their resultant tragedy,
can easily be avoided if the autoists will coopefate
with the 'polièe în thêîr Worth-Whîlè campaign.

Without the blare of trumpets, a quiet, unassum
ing young man has come to Ashland to devote his
time and talents on behalf of the. boys and young
men of Ashland. Ba is the new full-time secretary
tff the Young Men's (Tiristian Association, who is
now mapping out «program of year’s aefiviffes
among (he "hoys <Jf fflfS bWittfttmtiy.
It is a happy commentary on Ashland’s civic
pride and progress that th e far-sighted business and
professional men of this city have seen the wisdom of
procuring the services of a full-time secretary.
For many years the Work of the Young Men’s
Christian Association has been to Ihe forefront in
the work of characterxarid body hpilding among the
boys and young men p f AiMrica. ,
,
The dads of Ashland take a genuine interest in
the welfare of their boys. This is proven by their
willingness to finance a large and wider Y. M. C.^A»
program during the coining year.
It is our prophecy that the coming of the new
fall - time secretary to Ashland will prove its worth
many times over in the months which lie ahead. Tim
boys of Ashland aw to be congratulated upon Wieir
good fortune. The dads of Ashland are to be com
mended for the real dad-and-son interest they have
displayed.

Robert N. Stanfield wdh the right to have his
cleverly worded slogan placed opposite his name on
the general election ballot,'and as. a result the voter
will be appraised that he stihds for ‘’freedom Front
Dictatorship.”
While tlus newspaper has always been friendly
to Senator Stanfield and believes that he did the state
of Oregon a vast amount of good in Washington,-
especially through the passage of his land grant tax
refund bill, yet we fail to see that lie lias the right to
ask for support in the forthcoming ©faction.
What is his so-called ” Freedom From Dictator
