Ashland w ill wind up the 1926
season In the newly organised
Southern Oregon League when It
meets its ancient rival, Medford,
at the Jackson county fa ir grounds
at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon. By
all the rules o f the gam«.- the
contest should pack the big grand
stand with fans from both cities.
I t was Just 16 weeks ago that
the baseball season got under way.
T h e game was played at the fa ir
grounds, and Ashland wandered
its sorry way homeward dn the
tall end of a 17 to 0 score. Med
ford high-hatted local fans for
many weeks and still likes to talk
about that sorry contest.
Team Strengthened
W ell, it ’s going to be different
tomorrow. W a lt Hugl^s, the new
skipper of the Ashland club. Is
determined to wipe out that early
season Insult, and he’s strength
ened his team materially to ac
compllsh that end.
Feeling between the two teams
has been a bit strained during the
present weeks. Both clubs hare
been busy tl-ylng to purchase play
ers from other clubs, but Ash

success th a n jb e Pear Pickers.

CHICAGO, III.. A u f. 28 (United
N ew s)— Chicago has imposed
midnight curfew on unescorted
girls Under 18 years of age. The
puritan fathers probably would
be shocked by the mildness of
such a restriction.
But In Chicago, where sex o f
fenses have been Increasing at an
alarm ing rate, the order is regard
ed as extremely radical. It re
veals to a somewhat startled pub
lic that a great many young girls
actually are roaming ‘the streets
a fter midnight. I t also indicates
the restraint .which modern auth
orities apply legal curbs to flam
