ed here by alleged cruelty on the
part of orators who, Insisting that
9,800 pupils stand in a biasing
sun for several hours while they
spoke at inauguration ceremon­
ies of the Sapporo Branch .of-tt^e
Japan Red Cross Society, caused
the collapse of more than 200 of
the children who subsequently re­
quired medical aid.
Childen of twelve primary
schools were forced to line up and
stand at attention throughout the
speeches, and although they soon
began to faint one by one, no
abridgement of the program was
allowed, It was charged.
