terday in Medford, oiling ogera-
tlons w ill not be started on the
Medford-Crater Lake highway at
the present time. This Is direct
word received from the office of
the state highway commission In
Salem today.

Medford reports yesterday were
to the effect that the oiling of th.'
highway had been started ltetwoe'
T ra il and Medfori), hut the high­
way conun lesion sends word that
no oiling has been done and prob­
ably w ill not be done during the
present summer months.
A halt In the oiling plans was
made because of the heavy tour­
ist travel to Crater Lake, and It
was generally believed that oiling
operations at this tim e would dis­
courage many autolsts who oth­
erwise would visit Oregon’s big
national park.

puted bootlegger, are all In jail

became doubtful and later defied
Dawes to take him to ja il.
Dawes answered the defy hy
taking Kilbourne to the court
house where he swore out a war­
rant for the man’s arrest on a
liquor charge. Kilbourne told his
story and all three were jailed.

wheat left Portland for the ex­
port trade today. The Belgium
ship, Menopier, the British ship

change report the wheat exports
