Marked by an eloquent and in-
structive address by Norman F.
Coleman, president of Reed Col-
lege, the graduating class of Ash-
land high school received its dl-
pomas last night and entered
into another era in the battle of
life.
President Coleman spoke to the
etudens on new education and ex-
plained In an entertaining man-
ner how tho standards of teach-
ing have been gradually, raised
throughout the country until at
the preeent time the thought and
work and initiative of the stn-
dent is equally as Important as
the work of the instructor.
Tho dipiomos were presented
by V- O. N. . Smith, chairman of
the school board. The armory was
a bower of class and school col­
ors, while the seats were coni
fortably filled with parents and
friends of the students.

ty is split asunder In the senator­
ial contest, seven of the eight

republicans. Thus, to a large de­
gree, the hopes of the anti-ad­
ministration forces lie with Bert
E. Hauey or Elton Watkins, op­
ponents for the democratic nom­
ination.
