Jackson county politics prom
ises to get under way at Med
ford on March 30 when the pro
posed pre-primary convention of
Jackson county republicans will
be held. This convention will
endorse candidates for county
offices but will withhold en
dorsements for state or federal
offices. ’
The following call and outline
of policies was announced toduy
by the republican county cen
tral committee:
‘‘The Republican County Cen
tral Committee has called a rep
resentative delegate convention
to be held in Medford, March
30, 1928. This convention will
write and adopt a platform.
This document will set forth
what the republican party of
Jackson county believes to be
the Important Issues of the cam
paign, and all republicans will
be expected to accept and de
fend Jt; knowing the high and
unselfish character of the In
dividuals that go to make up the
republican party In this county
we can say with confidence that
no unsound or unworthy plank
will appear in this platform.
“This year there are four im
portant offices to be filled—one
state senator, two state rep
resentatives, - and ,'fv^e* ■ • cmmtj
commissioner.
Recom m endations
"One of the purposes of this
convention Is to recommend can
didates for these offices to the
republican voters in the May
primary.
We shall make no
recommendations for national or
state offices, believing that to
be the prerogative of state and
congressional conventions.
“We Invite all candidates for
these four offices, who believe
in representative government and
party responsibility to submit
their claims and qualifications
to this convention, It being un
derstood on a question of 'honor
that they will loyally abide by
the decision of the convention
and actively support the ticket
reqpra mended.
"There may be candidates who
do mot wish to ask endorsement
by this convention, but do ex
pect to enter the race through
the direct primary in tHe usual
way. This is thelfr right, which
will not be questioned. All can
didates desiring to appear be
fore this convention are asked
to file such intention in writ
ing to J. W. Wakefield, chair
man Republican County Com
mittee, not later than March
24, 1928."

Effie Cherry, of the once

Effie's campaign was

She favored longer skirts

also favored a curfew
