Old-timers from every nook and
corner of Southern Oregon and
Northern California will limber
up rheumatic old joints, tune up
their fiddles, rub a generous
amount of rosin on their bowa
and vie for honors' in the Fid
dlers Contest, which ia being ar
ranged by the Medford Lions
Club. On Thursday night, March
4th, strains from many popular
old tunes like “Turkey in the
8traw*’ and “ Blue Danube W alts”
dena ballroom at Medford, when
old-time fiddlers will compete for
several prises which have been
off erod by the Medford Lions.
With the first announcement
of the novel contest, inquiries
from Roseburg to Dunsmuir,
from Applegate to Lakeview
flooded in to the contest head
quarters at the C. B. Gates Auto
Company of Medford. Enthusiasm
baa been growing by leaps and
bounds and already indications
point to one of the season’s most
brilliant affairs In Medford. Not
only will old-timers enjoy the
novel contest but young as well,
since the contest will be followed
by a big dance where new and
old time dancq hits will be fea
tured. Henry Ford, who has made
a country wide effort to revive
the old time dances, haa been
selected as honorary jndge of the
Lions Contest.

The real purpose and objective
of the plan under which the city
council expects to appoint an of
ficial who will have general man
agement of four of the city de
partments— water, electric, street
and fire— waa explained in an
Interview this morning with Wm.
Briggs, city attorney.
Sometime ago Mr. Briggs con
ceived the • Idea of coordinating
two of the moat closely connected
departments whereby one official
would have general management
of the two departments.
Later, in discussing this idea
with other city officials, it was
thought that the plan would work
equally as well for the coordina
tion of the fonr departments nam
ed above, instead of merely two
units.
