There are many arguments against the location ^of
the G ateway office alongside an oil service station on the
highway, several* m iles from a city» hut at the same time
In our humble opinion it behooves the people of A shland
to be keenly alert to the situation and to jpako strenuous
objections to this proposed change in the Gateway office.
Anto tourists do not want to be halted out on the
highway where there is a general lack of tourist accomo­
dations. Consequently, Ashland is the only logical N a ­
tion for th is important office during the tourist months.
B ut seeking an opportunity to divert this auto tour­
ist traffic, Klamath F alls is quick to grasp i t Ashland
residents should register a vigorous protest whioh could
be heard to the four corners of the state and thus bjock
the attem pt to take from Ashland that which is rightful*
f f h e r ’s.

To the fact, that the newspapers of this country now
are cordially enffeted In the war a ^ tin sf firo waste, there
■ is abundant testim ony of the directest kind. Yet indirect
proof of a changed attitude also is not wanting. This

which the growing metropolitan journals* in reporting
an outbreak, hd?G been at pains to nose out the cause.
Over the past five years, especially, this tendency to dis­

opening up the road towards fire-safety. It has bocome

by far too few rays of hope.
